Lean Correction - Strange Results

    I recently added the rear 10mm OME spacer (the version that sits above the coil) to the rear drivers side to try to correct some of the lean. The results are not at all what I was expecting.

    • The rear drivers side did not lift at all. I was at 23-3/4" before and am still at 23-3/4"
    • The rear passenger side lifted 1/8"
    • The front drivers side came up 1/4"
    • The front passenger side came up 1/8"

    I now have 3/8" of lean in both the front and the rear.

    Couple of notes
    • This is with an empty tank (before and after), I will take measurements with a full tank (have the before measurements already). However, based on previous measurements, this is going to make the lean even worse.
    • I made sure the rear springs seated nicely in their cups and the spacer was in the right place as the spring compressed.
    • I measured with the same measuring tape from the bottom of the wheel well to center of wheel so tires are not a consideration.
    • I drove about 50 miles (including over speed bumps, rough terrain etc...) to get it to settle before measuring.

    Not sure if I am chasing a lean that doesn't "want" to be fixed. But I have ordered a Moto-fab 1/4" spacer from Amazon to install in the driver front to see if that corrects anything.

    I have read a couple of others who saw no change from a rear spacer. Did following up with a front shim, correct / improve the lean?

    Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you install a spacer in the front and rear?

    Also how are you measuring? Center of hub to fender?

    Based in my results, I am thinking you are not wrong @Dillusion

    I have ordered the front 1/4" spacer from Amazon. It's made from steel vs others that are aluminum or poly. Not sure if it's the best option. If not, let me know and I will order a different one.

    And yes, measuring center of hub to bottom of fender.

    Edit, actually the chamfer on the bottom of the fender as it provides a consistent reference line

    I just see 2 different spacers for lean for front and back so I'm just assuming you need both.

    Not sure why not just tell um together.

    That would be way to easy.

    I did just the rear first to see how much that would help. Turns out, the answer is "not at all"

    I'm just trying to figure out if I am going to be just as disappointed when I add the front spacer and it still isn't any better. Not looking for perfect, just looking for better than I was after the mild lift.

    BTW - no KDSS on mine

    Thanks Chris. That is what I was hoping for. I made bumpstop blocks out of HDPE for my Jeep and they are bulletproof. UHMW is even stronger. Will reach out to you.

    Now that was the easiest transaction ever! Thanks @2016 4Runner SR5.

    Cancelled my Amazon order for the Moto-Fab part.

    For everyone else out there. UHMW Polyethylene is incredibly strong. It is used in industrial high friction / high strength applications like conveyor belt wheels, bearings etc... It is far superior to other options for this purpose as there is no risk of things like galvanic corrosion from aluminum being in contact with steel and wont rust like painted steel parts if they get scratched.

    If you are in the market for spacers or a shim to correct lean or lift, call Chris.

    There is no question (for me), go with the cornfed ones from @2016 4Runner SR5. See my comments above.

    Note that I have absolutely no affiliation to Chris, except my contact with him thru this site. I also appreciate and respect his "hustle" as we say in Houston. The spacers he sells are exactly the material I was looking for and the price was ideal. His communication is top notch as well.

    I will post results as soon as I install it. I have no expectations it will 100% fix the lean as it changes based on how much fuel you have in the tank and who is sitting in the vehicle but my goal is to get it as close as I can to level.

    The Spacer from Cornfed arrived in the mail on Sunday and I installed it today. Drove about 20 miles and filled the tank so I could get some comparable measurements.

    The lean has been greatly reduced. Here are the deltas: NOTE: this is with a 10mm OME spacer in the rear Drivers side and the 1/4" Cornfed Spacer in the front drivers side.

    F 1/8" lean to drivers side
    R 1/4" lean to drivers side.

    Based on my previous full tank measurements, I had an even 1/2" lean both front and rear so this is greatly improved. When empty, I had between 1/4" and 3/8" lean. So it looks like when I'm empty, it will still be pretty close.

    I'm thrilled!!! Worth going back in to correct but if your installing Bilstein 5100s for the first time, do it at the same time you install them.

    Also, quality of the cornfed spacer was excellent. Came with new nuts (which I used) and instructions (which I did not use)

    Install was simple
    Jack up and remove wheel (use Jack Stands)
    Remove front skid plates and plastic trim
    Remove lower shock nut (leave bolt in)
    Remove 3 upper shock nuts
    Remove 2 lower control arm to spindle bolts
    Loosen lower control arm bushings bolts
    Install spacer and reinstall everything in reverse order. Torque to spec.

    About 1 hour 30 min start to finish.
