Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum
I have a 4Runner that was given to me for a vehicle for my daughter, after title transfer and minor work to get it to pass smog, still cost me around 500 dollars.
When it was time to smog it again, year later, I ended up putting new tires, steering knuckle, front end alignment, power steering pump and interior detailing before going back to her for a couple of months until a buddy gave me a wrecked Camry that ran great but needed passenger side doors.
This car went to her because of better fuel economy than 4Runner after I replaced the doors and late transfer, smog still over 600 dollars, but good car that only drinks oil like its gas.
4Runner went up for sale on eBay and sold a little over 2k, had some issue with it kicking out of overdrive and getting EGR code after 15-20 miles.
The eBay buyer flaked out of the purchase right at the 90 days so I could not file anything with eBay.
I think this was a good thing, I have had a couple of other co-workers with interest in buying, but I had the manifold with all the sensors out because I read somewhere that is this is clogged it will cause transmission issue I was experiencing, well it was not clogged, but the line that returns back to block was clogged, also one of the sensors was not acting right or changing with temperature when I tested it, also the bimetal valve was broken.
Also rear window switch and ECT power switches were non functional from too much caffeine, I soaked them in water and blew out with air a couple of times, now they both work great.
I finally put the car back together this weekend, spent 3 hours washing it, removed running boards, got insurance this morning and took for a test ride.
Seeing how high the prices of cars are going, I'm glad I did not sell the 4Runner, I'm not planning to get into rock crawling, I am looking forward to maybe do a ride with others up towards Yosemite if the opportunity comes up.
I will need to replace the stereo on the 4Runner, the OEM one has problem with dirty volume switch and I'm not sure about the conditions of speakers.
I am not going to lift this, if I was to do any mods it would be a new exhaust system with headers to let the engine breath better.
I did not find the jack, maybe its hidden somewhere, I found the jack tools in the back, maybe someone can point out where the jack is stored in the vehicle.

Where are you located? Here in Texas and for the few counties that require smog testing, vehicles older than 25 years are exempt. May want to check your local municipality to see if it is really a requirement for a 29 year old vehicle

I’m in California I have had to smog last March and also the year before during title transfer.
Next smog do in March 2024.
There is a rule for smog exempt here in California, but I don’t know much about it, obviously still doesn’t apply to me.
The last smog I did get the guy said it was an extremely clean running engine, I guess that’s a good thing.

That's a bummer about the smog testing but glad you're passing with minimal issues.

Either way, welcome to the forum!

Welcome! Assuming this is a 3rd Gen (maybe I missed this), the jack should be under the passenger side rear seat cushion.

Jack should be in one of the side compartments in the rear with the tools. The bar to lower the rear tire are under the rear seats. At least that is the way it is with my 92. Welcome.

To clarify, if you have a 3rd Gen, here's where the jack and tools reside under the seat. The long crank piece is not shown in this pic, but it goes there, too. Other gens have it in a rear side compartment as trlhiker states.
