Hello, my wife and I just purchased our first Toyota 4Runner. I have been a long time visitor / reader in anticipation of buying a 4Runner. My wife and I love to hike with our Boxer (Zooey) and look forward to finding new roads and adventures with our truck!

Welcome to the site. You will LOVE this vehicle!! Did you get it with KDSS? Mine has it and seems like it corners on rails. Any pics of Zooey? Any mods planned, or or you keeping it stock?

We didn't get the KDSS.. we thought about it and didn't think we wanted to stretch the budget any as we were splurging a bit already on a premium. I even passed on test driving the one with KDSS on the lot because I figured I would have talked myself into... and you can see Zooey Dogchanel (we are so original) in a couple of her favorite spots... one being my dads chair at the lake house and another being the woods. As for the mods, for the time being it's stock. After some home improvements I would like to get sliders and eventually swap out the tires for KO2s. Outside of that I'm so happy with the 4R I can't see what else I want to change... oh the fog lights to leds with better output.

Zooey is GORGEOUS!! Understand about the budget though!. Yep, the KO2's are among the fav's of AT tires. And ditto on the LED change out. Want to do mine soon, but need to install my bumpers, and want to order some Shrockworks sliders as well. Please let us know what you decide, and take care of that 4legged family member! We drove a '16 SR5 w/o KDSS, and the wife commented that "it rides rough". I thought" eh, "it's a truck, and it's OK to me if it feels like one". then I did research and ordered mine with KDSS, (no test drive of a KDSS equipped runner avail), and LOVE IT! BUT! I think that either way, it is a fabulous ride. BTW, understand about the home improvements as well. Travel for the last two years has really kept me from finishing some long term projects here at the house as well.

nice looking ride! I bought K02s and then had em swapped out to Terra Grapplers. The K02s even in load range C are substantially heavier than the stock tire and the unsprung weight addition will make the T4R feel even slower. They look amazing, but wasn't worth making my truck feel even slower than it already is lugging around town.

@303fail thanks for the tip... so I'm a noob first off. Secondly, I assume you're happy with the Terra Grapplers' performance on and off road.. that is outside of the weight difference. Treadlife, tractions, MPGs, road noise, handling, etc. ?

Thanks for the info on the feel of them slowing down your rig, not something I would be wanting. I may have to look at some of the threads that are tire specific again and do some more research. What stock tires did you have? On this '17 TRD OR Prem we have the Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek.

I had those on my Tacoma, they were not too bad in the beginning but as they wore they lost a lot of traction, also not good off road.

@jester243 I have heard that from many places online *sigh* ... ha, luckily I won't be off roading for a while due to lack of free time. :(

All Canadian Trails have KDSS, according to the brochure, so my first thoughts were that it is a great advantage as our Trail sure handles beautifully on twisty highways. Then, one day I looked underneath and, to my surprise, no KDSS. Now I don't miss it and I wouldn't have it if it was offered. One less thing to go wrong! - Cheers, Ted

I mean they are not the worst either, they are serviceable, this was after a 20+ inch overnight snow with those tires on, truck did suburb, as you can see I was pushing snow and the truck had no issues with traction in 4wd

I have just seen those tires get the sidewalls shredded off road on some pretty small harmless looking rocks

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the site! I am also the proud owner of the Trail Premium which is now what you have in the 2017 version. I recommend the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Cheers...

My TE came stock with the Bridgestone Duelers..about the same quality as your Dunlops. For me I spend pretty much all my time on-road. I wanted a tire that looked good and did better than the stock tires. I wanted to love the K02s, but for me at least they are just too extreme for the T4R especially with our lack of power. I know I will get flack since most on the forums run this tire ( I have no idea how guys roll around on 285s etc with all the weight..maybe re-geared?). So far the Terra Grappler G2's handle significantly better in rain and dry conditions compared to my stock tires. The weight is about the same ( purchased the SL range) so I notice no difference in day to day driving..only maybe a tad more road noise but barely discernible. I do love the look of the K02 and they road smooth..if only the came in a SL or P metric size. Some of us don't need or want C/E range tires.

I love the look of these tires..wish they had more a variety of Load Range's and sizes.
