Cruising range

Ok guys how accurate is this cruising range? As you can see it says 1 mile but when I filled up it was a 20 gallon fill. Don't we have 23 gallon tanks which means I should of had around 54 or so more miles of range if I'm averaging 18 mpg?

 

Toyota is protecting us from ourselves. Mine drops to 1 mile with about 2 gallons left in the tank too.Pro

 

That's nice to know, but I'm a belt and braces man so I fill up when the gauge shows a bit less than 1/4 full. I have never run out of fuel yet, and I don't intend to chance it. - Ted

 

If you really want to find out how how you can go, get a fuel can and take it with you, then just keep driving, Seinfeld style.

But as Spanky said, they intentionally pad the estimate so people won't run out of gas.

And really, the "range" is a total estimate anyway. It's based on how much fuel the vehicle thinks it has, and how much fuel it thinks it's using (both have their own inaccuracies).

 

Range also depends on the terrain. From here in Agassiz, B.C., whenever we head east or north we have nowhere to go but up, into the mountains. That does tend to play hell with fuel consumption at highway speeds. - Ted
