Where to start. Just will. Ive had 2 squeaks since i bought the rig.

In 2018 I found 2018 OR, mid year, 285/70/17 ko2s on fuel rims. It had 6600ish miles on it.
First "squeak" was evident on first test drive. Nothing crazy at all, but was there. To me, sounded metal to metal ish, but a squeak type, higher pitched,.. but thin sounding, metal to metal, and only when giving the suspension some work or a bit of "twist". But couldbe dead silent on Fins and things?. A large speed bump, id hear it, and nothing at all felt off. Not all the time at all. Here and there. Me and my copilot, when we did hear it, heard it from different areas lol. No this side, no, this side. But definitely front. We get on the highway, and both of us mentioned how much the HOOD moved "shivered"..., up and down, or like i need to put some dampener on the inside to calm the vibrations or adjust the latch. No biggie, not to me/us. No worries. Loved the rig, drove to a bank, and transferred the money, and I'm rolling in it that day, to now. I love it.
Drive some time, several thousand miles. Its there, here and there, at times, i dont really care, off road, on road big boy trips, Moab, Idaho, Montana southern Utah, west desert, Uintahs, we are beating on this thing, and,... driving it 42 miles ONE way to work daily,..alls well. God i love this thing.
But man this annoying "squeak". (I have almost 80k on this thing now)
I start to notice heat plays?? The hotter, the more i hear it. (It took a 80 degree evening to make me do the wtf? Pulling out of my drive way to work one night.
In winter, i really didnt even hear or notice it. (Expansion?, no idea)
Every time it was taken in for a oil change, from the start "hey, theres a squeak, in the front, if ya see anything weird". Everyone was cool i guess. I took 2 techs for a ride, and did the "right there" thing. Both acknowledged and after a look, underneath, nothing to really go for with out tearing into shit. I had one place tell me "oh, thats a wheel bearing, gotta be"
I said, but it doesn't go with speed???? Or even time, or situation?? And the thing, is basically new ish?? Wheel bearing? Sheesh, no way. But i do beat on my junk, but so new?
Wanna put it on the lift?? Naw, ill just take it. Thank you.

Many miles later, I need new rubber now, the ko2s have 60k or more on them. I have a reputable shop local, (and a buddy) get some new rubber, and said to hell with it, ditch the spacers, and lets get some coils up front (vated) and some springs in the rear (ome). Rad. Alls well. But, that squeak is still there kekw.
    Ok. Meh, lets go wheel/adventure.

Very present, I have 4 days off work (last week). I get my co2 tank in the rear mounted, got my victory skid plate on, played with getting my charger under hood installed, and, said eff this, just normal dudes off for a bit shit. I jacked up the front, played with both front tires, zero play, nothing with upper nor lower arms, zero with steering, hell, i lossened/basically removed the sway bar (im looking for movement type stuff, and the suspension stuffs kinda new/didnt remedy). Man, everything looks fine for a 80k plus rig, to me anyway.
Drinking a beer, i watch a YouTube video, of a dude, trying to narrow down a "squeak" on his basically new runner. Same type ish of situation. This dude shows, adjusting the rubber stops, for the hood closing!?!???!? No way???!!!

At 2am, at work, i popped the hood, and turned the rubber stops up both 3/4 of a turn. Its dead, dead quiet lol no bullshit. I guess, the hood doing hood stuff, dicked with about 16 people, myself the worse.

Jesus, i know, i know how stupid this sounds. Trust me. But, the squeak is gone, lol, and, (see above) the hood, is no where NEAR moving at speed. Long, i know, odd we saw it, from the first day (hood shake)
If this helps anyone, .. cool. If i look that damn dumb,.. eh,. Im good, and ok with that.

Even though you fixed it. You'll probably still hear it every once in a while. :goingcrazy:

Nice going! Glad you found it. Just goes to show there was nothing really wrong with the truck. Good ole Toyotas... I started with a 79 HiLux. Beat the crap out of it hauling a Honda XR in the back all over the Sierras. What a great truck, kind of wish I still had it.

Interesting. I’ve noticed a shake to my hood infrequently, but blew it off as a side effect of owning a truck. I’ll check it out tomorrow, especially since I have less than 600 kms (373 miles).

I have the same hood squeak periodically after off roading in the dust. Once I rinse the areas off with water and add a little silicone, it’s good till next time.

Been noticing a slight squeak when turning left or right. I notice it most when I turn left into work and the suspension articulates a little going up and over the entrance to the parking lot. Opened the door and and stood on the inner rocker and rocked the truck side to side, squeak was auditable. Went to the passenger door, same thing, heard the squeak. Had my boss come out and listen, he said it sounded like a bushing or something squeaking but the sound was coming from more of the center which was kinda odd. Anyway, ok I'll have the dealer look at it when I go and get my rear hatch opener button replaced (I have a 12 month 12000 mile B2B warranty through the dealer). I decided to open the hood and show him where I was going to mount a bracket for my Trigger Controller 4+ and I thought, maybe I should try and rock the truck again with the hood up and we could hear the squeak better. So I do the same thing and no squeak at all. Turns out it was coming from the hood latch. Put a small amount of WD40 on it and boom, no squeak.

Same thing happened to me. Dealership tried to convince me to go back to factory coils due to my current ones rubbing. Sound was the hood all along. I felt like an idiot that it was from something so simple, but glad I called BS on the dealership!

It happens to the best of us.

I've had too many beers to find out if this was my problem or not but I adjusted these just now and if this fixes that damn squeak I'm going to be so happy!

From my experience, I feel it is the factory windshield sealant coming into contact with the body area. Have been able to verify by spraying silicone under the seal. Will need to remove windshield trim to 100% verify. When in hotter temperatures the issue does not happen, thinking that windshield sealant is causing noise by rubbing on the butyle sealant.

The hood latch sound seems to be temporarily solved in two ways. Lifting the bumpers, or putting a little grease on the contact points of the on the latch mechanism and latch. The problem is that the body flexes naturally while in motion, and the U shaped latch basically tries to move around in the mechanism. Lifting the hood bumpers lifts the hood slightly and adds some preload to the latch. But don’t turn them out too high, because it might not pre-load the weatherstripping enough to keep road spray out of the engine bay. I turned out these bumpers on my old Sienna, went too far, and the engine compartment got full of salt spray. Turned into a nasty mess pretty quick after that.

There should be a sticky thread with all the common easy-to-solve noises that 4runners will get after a little bit of use.
    -Hood latch squeak
-wheel well rubber splash shields tapping/squeaking
-windshield tapping caused by plastic trim pieces at both ends of plastic cowling trim

Man I could not find that sticky. Any help would be appreciated :)

Also, raising my hood bumpers did NOT fix the noise :(

Same here! I removed my old flimsy splash shield and used it as a template to make a new one out of some thin rubber matting (think thin gym floor matting, still much thicker than the factory shield material) that I had left over from my storage platform build. Installed the new thicker shield, and the noise is gone.

I'd encourage you to give it a try. I think I spent less than 30 minutes making my new one, and the results were excellent.

I have a rattle coming from what seems to be under the passenger front seat. I can’t seem to figure it out and it’s annoying as hell.
