    Can anyone recommend good engine and cabin air filters. I live in an area with lots of sugar sand, so they get dirty fast.

    K&N makes reusable engine and cabin (panel) filters. AFE also makes a reusable drop in engine panel filter, but offers a version that doesn't require oiling

    OEM for engine air filter. Activated carbon air filter for cabin air.

    I like to keep the OEM case for the engine air filter and put a better filter not a whole set in. Toyota is proud of their filters for only lasting 5-6k. Granted i live in a dusty area, and it is the dry season right now.

    You're not going to find a higher filtration filter by going aftermarket. If protection from dust is your biggest concern, stick with the OEM filter.

    Okay, thanks. Any way i can keep them for more than 5k miles, i try cleaning the engine but, no such luck. And the cabin is so fragil, i dont even bother with it.

    Your best bet is to see if you can find them in bulk to get them cheaper (5-10 packs) There are washable filters but they dont filter as well as OEM.

    These are the cabin air filters I use. Cheaper than OEM and they have activated carbon to help keep the interior smelling fresh.

    Not to start yet another filter war, but... I've been using k&n air filters in all of my vehicles or nearly 2 decades, even my dirtbike. I put over 300k mile on my first gen 4runner. I plan to get another for my new '17.

    I've ridden my dirtbike in the desert, driest dusty conditions you can imagine, and inspected my filter daily, not one detectible spec of dust made it past the filter. Ever. As long as it is properly cleaned and oiled, it does just as good of a job as any filter, and you never need to replace it.

    I dont use k&n's because they give me 20 more horsepower, I have stickers for that. I like them because I only ever have to buy one filter, for life, and my experience is that they do a fine job at filtering with no measureable pass thru of dust.

    I definitely prefer the drop ins.

    My 04 taco has a k&n "cold air" intake that came on it when I bought it in '05. The noise is, well, annoying for little if any performance gain, but I was always too lazy to put it back to stock (plus it would have cost a couple hundred bucks). I might make some changes to it when/if I put a snorkel on it, but other than that, the noise isn't enough for me to want to change it back to stock.

    I very strongly disagree with your OEM cabin air filter as the best . I was down in the sugar sand region and I had to go to o'riellys auto parts down in fort myers because of all that sugar sand blowing into my new 4K mile T4R...... installed a wix carbon air filter and NO dust got thru I mean sugar sand dust .....

    we had problems with the OEM filter very poor quality allowed dust to get on into the vehicle vent louvers.. had no problems until I entered the sugar sand regions .

    after install the vents stayed clean as we passed thru the dust areas and also we had NO breathing issues.. OEM is crap. also wix has NO smell/odor issues as well .

    Filtration testing proves otherwise. It's too bad you had a bad experience with OEM.

    ARB Bumper, Some Stuff, Some Other Stuff, and some Stuff.
    OEM, aFe dry, or K&N (if you're really good with oiling it when you clean it, otherwise you'll clog your MAF sensor) drop-in for engine. K&N washable cabin air filter

    well I know who did my testing it was me and the wife .. this is the test that matters on performance . we had to go by this construction area every day so the wix was tested repeatedly .. also just looking at it the filter was made far better. perhaps I should have gone to dealership and get one under warranty since it was defective LOL,... not gonna happen ...

    I used to buy the OEM cabin filter from the dealer but it's around $25 ea. CDN. plus tax. (Don't know the price in the US but imagine they don't give them away)
    My wife and I do a lot of camping so there is plenty of travel on dirt roads and there is pollen, dust, leaves etc. and the cabin filter gets dirty very quickly.
    I change the cabin filter about 4 times a year and engine air filter 2 times a year (I use Fram filters in the engine).
    Anyways I saw a video on YouTube about using furnace filters for the cabin filter and I have been doing that for the past 8 years.
    I just buy an extra furnace filter (waffle type) cut it to the size of the plastic holder et voila. I can get two cabin filters from one filter.
    Cost of filter about $10 (you can use more expensive ones if you want) - so it costs me about $5 per cabin filter and it works. My 2 cents.

    since I do replace furnace filters often I agree that these furnace filters are bigger/cheaper and better made . cut to fit good idea. being very cheap in a pollen area NOW a great help..
