Cooler leaked in the trunk, how to get the water out ?

Hello,
so went camping last weekend. Friday to Monday. One of the coolers' drain plug went loose and it leaked water into the trunk. Clean water, just from the ice melting. I would say 2 bags, one was not completely melted and the plug is not on the very bottom of the cooler.
I let the windows down and trunk open, rear seats down. I don't see any water in the rear seats foot wells, so I guess it is confined to the trunk area.
Any ideas how to get the water out and avoid mold? Any wiring under the trunk I should be aware of?
Tonight I will have the car in the garage, windows up and a dehumidifier inside running all night. If sunny tomorrow, the windows all down and let it air out.
Should I take it all apart and go down to the metal?

 

Biy or borrow a shop vac to get as much as possible out. Even a carpet cleaner will work. Windows down, dehumidifier since you have one should take care of it. Really shouldn't have an issue after it dries. You definitely are not the first one this has happened to!

 

I did the same but with a smaller zippered cooler so it wasn't as much as a full cooler. I have some mats from my Tacoma in the back that absorbed most of it but I had to just use towels to soak everything else up. We were on a trail so no wet/dry to use.

 

Baking soda draws moisture. I'd get a box or two amd sprinkle it on the carpet. Let it sit for a couple days and then vacuum it up.

 

If it's hot and sunny where you're at, leave it out in the sun with the rear hatch open. Get an electric fan or two and set it up to blow air on the carpet.

 

You will be amazed how much water a dehumidifer will pull out. I would just do that.

 

You can also buy large desiccants from Amazon to help with moisture when the windows have to be up. Those do a great job controlling moisture in the air.

 

Thanks, it seems it is nothing to really worry about.
Of course, on the hour I am home and I roll all windows down to dry it, I got a severe thunderstorm warning on my phone. Lucky me !
Humidifier it is.

 

Good thing you have a garage. The same thing happened to me before and I also used a dehumidifier. I emptied out the bucket every couple of hours or so and was happy on the progress until my neighbor knocked on my door and asked if I was dehumidifying the whole island. I gave him the wtf look and realized that I forgot to seal the gap made by the extension cord.

I have the door closed. I’m not gonna run it overnight without supervision, it’s getting hot in there.
I’ll have the fan only till tomorrow morning.

Its a wonder Daihatsu never really took off in America. Nothing says strong/muscular/cool/freedom like a Daihatsu!

Of course so many other models do not either, maybe that is why so many cell phone rings are more popular that cars

 

You can pull your rear carpet out in less than 10 minutes. I did a trade for a rear sliding cargo deck and removed my rear carpet and the pad underneath in a few minutes and helped the guy I traded with install it in his TRD Pro in about 10 minutes. There is one harness under there that I recall. While you have it out, buy some sound deadening mats-
