So I just took delivery of a new 2016 4Runner SR5. I was doing my post delivery check and discovered there was no jack or jack hardware in the vehicle. Also, the spare tire had 70 PSI in it when it should have 32 PSI.

The dealer has since replaced the jack and I adjusted the tire pressure down to 32.
I also turned the spare around so I can get to the spare valve stem to check tire pressure.

Just wanted to make other new 4runner owners aware of this. You may want to check to see if you have the jack and jack hardware installed.

YA ! same with my 2016 july T4R. brought home went through the tire change on this and found I needed a screw driver to do the deal.. no screw driver I was pissed off .. This is why I go through this type stuff . wife thought I was nuts to go though this process with a new vehicle.. I said any vehicle can get a flat .

spare tire had over 60 PSI in it and as yours , I reversed the tire install so I can check the spare air pressure with NO dropping..

I would see if you like how the jack works on lifting the front wheels OFF the ground . I was not all that happy as the jack is too small and unstable on that much lift.

SO I purchased a stubby bottle jack that sets under the front control arms and jack up there. no issues very stable vehicle sits pretty level even with wheel off ground so if on a soft shoulder to replace tire with Toyota jack that would be dangerous.

FYI. I found that one of the ends of the jack rods is the same size as the connector screws. So no screw driver needed.

Just replaced our oem spare with a Goodyear Duratrac, to match the 4 that came with our 4R when it was new last September. I like to have the spare overinflated though,as much as 45 psi, as it can lose pressure over time. - Ted

the tire has a max pressure rating so if its 45 psi and 60 plus is in it NOT GOOD.

also reversing the install so the valve stem is sticking down then check all 5 tires not just 4 .

I usually run 35 psi in our tires so I don't think 45 psi is going to be any problem. A Duratrac is rated for much more than that. Maybe you misunderstood me? - Ted

my july 2016 4runner has 45 psi max pressure . my GM truck does have 80 psi max pressure . depends what the tire spec is . yours is ?

GM truck has load E tires which is why they are rated that high . my tires previous to these had 50 PSI max those where C rated. cannot find good C rated so had to get the E.

on my 2016 T4R I put 38 psi.. tires look very even 8K miles no rotations yet.

I never was referring to your tires specifically just saying the tire should not exceed the max pressure that it is rated , even if its the spare .

I would not comment on your tires because I have no idea what they are rated but I know what my tires are LOL...

My guess the goodyear duratrac tires are 51 psi . max...

Yes, the Duratracs are rated to 51 psi, so carrying 45 psi in the spare is no problem. The 4 original tires still look like new, but we have only put about 5,000 miles on them so far. Just waiting for the snow to leave the mountains before we head out on our first long trip. -
    Cheers, Ted
