Agreed, this quick bring to market philosophy has never worked for any of the domestics.

This is exactly why folks like me family a friends who work or worked at Ford no longer drive them. Living in Michigan you used to get picked on for driving a Japanese nameplate in the late 80's and 90's not so much anymore.

My Dad worked there for 40 years and had a ton of their garbage quality because he felt loyal; only to have his health insurance yanked when my Mom had cancer when he retired (non union guy) yes thanks may I have another. please No more Ford products for me after my Explorer issues and lack of standing behind it...best of luck Ford. Even my Dad will no longer buy a Ford pretty amazing how loyalty or lack of there of works both ways.

Add this to another growing list of reasons, that you NEVER buy a new car/truck that is released for the first time. Let the Automaker iron out the kinks and any issues with the new model and then you get it year 2 or 3.
Nobody cares that you were the 1st or 2nd person in your area to own a new whatever! Especially when your the first one to have it break down and be the first to have it visit the shop to get it "fixed"

Yep for sure--probably if you are Ford or GM you update shizzo so often with these engines nothing is around long enough to prove itself. Look at the new Canyon/Colorado new transmissions every few years and now no more V6 or Diesel.

Toyota had the right idea make it for a decade, make minor refinements, and don't screw with a good thing.

It is cool looking. I could never beat the snot out of any vehicle like that though. I work too hard for my money to abuse a vehicle like that. But that’s just me though.

My understanding is that The biggest difference in quality is because anyone can stop production on the Toyota assembly line to make a fix to a vehicle. It’s then applied to all the vehicles. Toyota May stop the production 2000 times in a week. Compare this to ford who may only stop production twice a week to fix an issue. Usually issues are caught by customers and they take a long time to make it back to the plant to correct it. Thus the endless recalls. I loved the look of the new bronco but in the end the reliability and resale of a 4runner is why I made my choice. As well trying to buy a bronco seemed like too much of a PITA.

YouTuber Lite Brite recently bought one with the explicit intent of torture testing it on the hardest trails they could. Within a day of owning it, they already had it out on a 8/10 rated trail where they would typically take their 6.4L hemi powered Rubicon on 1tons and 40s.

The next video they took it on some buggy lines, and only carnage was a rear flare being partially ripped off.

They were very impressed with it, because it excelled at crawling as well as being able to bomb through the desert at 65mph. Their initial opinion is that the Braptor is the best all around off-road vehicle on the market right now.

Haha, thats because it is... its a beast ! 12"+ front and 13" rear travel from factory! 37" tires stock, and even with 37s it does 0-60 in 6 seconds.

I've always wanted a raptor, infact I almost bought one(2019) but it just shifted so odd with the 10spd. I can't even describe it. I know once you do some tuning the shifting is improved, so I'm sure the newer models shifting improved.

The raptor trim level is just above and beyond the competition in my eyes. And this bronco raptor is awesome, I even like the large flares.

I’m happy I’m getting a second year GR86 / BRZ. They started making them in 2012 but the second Gen debuted in 22.

PS — hardly as hot a car as the bronco but I’m seeing big prices for them used. Way over msrp. They are very hard to find new or used. I’m getting mine for either msrp or below invoice (depends on which one, Toyota or Subaru version). So that will be a nice little investment, at least for a few months lol.

I had one as a rental, it feels more like a Wrangler than an SUV. It was noisy with a jittery ride. It looks cool but after having one I would not trade the 4Runner for it.

For the record and my opinion only.
The only real Bronco's, were the EB's. I'll never own a 4th gen, let alone 2nd or 3rd gen Bronco.
But, with that said, it will be interesting to see or hear about the life of a factory stock Braptorco after the warranty is up.
What issues and/or repairs have been done to it, if any. The one pictured in mid-jump, would be an excellent choice.

Having both 2022 4Runner Trail Edition and 2022 Bronco Badlands in the household I do believe one is not necessary better than the other (the bronco is mine while girlfriends drive the 4Runner). The Bronco is more in comparison with the Wrangler than the 4Runner. I think where the Bronco encroaches on the 4Runner territory is on road driving capability. It’s just as smooth if not better and I feel more planted on the road than her 4Runner. Now this could be related to trim levels as I do have 35”-ish tires and better suspension than the 4Runner. The power difference is noticeable for sure as well as the seats feel better in the Bronco ( I do not know how the seats are in higher trims if the 4Runner for comparison).
Many of the faults of the Bronco compared to the 4Runner can be same for the Wrangler I believe. Such as interior, cargo area and yes reliability ( Toyota is built on it while others are not).
As for the major issues, it’s a first year vehicle. Wranglers had issues with cutting off power with the JL as well as early bad welds and the notorious “death wobble.”

As for the bad valves, that was a short production run where ford had an issue with the manufacture of the valves and the metal. I do believe a majority of the broken tie-rods are mostly due to running bigger wheel and tire size combinations while not properly addressing the suspension.

We both like the 4Runner as it drives nice and has more space for the 3 dogs. I myself thought about getting one or a Tacoma but I do like the looks of the Bronco more so.

I bought a 2dr Bronco Badlands, Sasquatch, 2.3 4cyl, manual last week. It had 500 miles on it and I have put 600 street miles on it.
My 4runner and Bronco are worlds apart. I can't see cross shopping them, even if the Bronco was a 4 dr.

4R is way smoother in every way, ride and drive, the interior is nicer and doesn't rattle, etc. The Bronco has the tech, for better or worse. I think near term the former and log term the latter.

The Bronco is mostly what you would expect with a big surprise, it tracks better on the road. Even a short wheelbase 2dr on 35's, you point it and goes straight with almost no steering wheel correction. Zero wandering, bumps of course may alter the direction. Of everything i have driven the Bronco does this better than all of them. Second smaller surprise is that gets better MPG than the 4R. The trip meter says 1060 miles at 18.1. My current half a tank is showing 21.

I had a 2015 JK, bought new on 35's (dealer installed). No comparison, the Bronco is is far, far better than my JK was.

Mine is 4dr 2.7 V6 with the marine grade vinyl interior. I do agree the interior is nicer and better put together in the 4Runner but the Broncos interior will hold up to the element and the abuse it’s meant for in the long run hence all the hard plastics.

I only had it for 2 weeks with about 500miles put on it. It defiantly tracks better than the 4Runner and I’m getting about 17 1/2 mpg doing 70mph on premium fuel. The 4Runner gets around 18-19mpg on the highway (really depends whose driving it).

I don’t think the technology will hold up in long-term. I mean who here is using a computer over 10 years old and are happy with the performance?

My wife has the 4-door Big Bend non-sasquatch (about 6,000 miles so far). I fit 35's on it no problem without a lift. Her idea of off-road is the mud pits going down to fishing holes, and the Bronco is perfect for that. I'm a Toyota guy of course, and even my teen daughter is driving a 2011 4Runner, but I still have my order in for a 2-door Base Sasquatch 2.3 manual Bronco. It's just something about an off-road vehicle with manual transmission, removable top, and not a Jeep, that just makes me want it.

I find a lot of things "funky" with the Bronco such as the windows must slightly open before the door (and the timing of that is off), location of the window switches is not intuitive for me, dropping the soft top is not the easiest thing to do and it's an absolute bear putting it back together correctly. Gas mileage with the wife's 2.3 Auto 4-door is better than the 2011 4Runner and acceleration is better as well. The huge mirrors make a blind spot when I'm turning left at stoplights. The highway wind noise in the Bronco is worse than my lifted 1984 4Runner.

If we're taking a long road trip my family would hop in the daughters 4Runner. Around town errands and mall runs are where the Bronco excels. Despite the hype I would still trust a 4Runner in the woods above the Bronco and I'll be nervous the first few times I take my future 2-door into the wild, but I'll always have a 4Runner backup just in case.

Edit: this picture reminds me that the Bronco body has so many nooks and crannies that it is THE WORST vehicle I have ever had to clean......

MGV here as well, I don't see the Bronco interior as better or worse as far as materials, just different missions. It's the build quality that is different as shown by the way the Bronco has rattles and the 4R doesn't. My JK rattled too, that was mostly the tailgate with the 35 on it, a hinge/gate reinforcement fixed that.

I haven't taken a long highway trip in the Bronco, around town it's 2 - 4 MPG better so far.

The raptor bronco is such a different animal then normal bronco. Its not only 10" wider, has a totally different engine(3.5 twin turbo). Ford even reinforced the frame.. I find the other trims for the bronco kinda unnecessary all the different packages and whatnot. There should be a xl model, xlt model then the braptor. Similar to the f150 or even the 4runner

I get what you're saying. Ford was just spec-ing out trims to compete with the Jeep Wrangler IMO.
    Wrangler Sport = Bronco Base
Wrangler Willys Sport = Bronco Big Bend
Wrangler Willys = Bronco Black Diamond
    Wrangler Rubicon = Bronco Badlands
Wrangler Sahara = Bronco Outer Banks
Wrangler Rubicon 392 = Bronco Raptor
But then there are the Bronco Wildtrack, Heritage and Everglades as well....

The Bronco Raptor comes with the 3.0 Ecoboost which is a modified 2.7. The F150 Raptor has the 3.5.
Ford looked directly at Jeep and listen to customers feedback and said “ we can try better.” The release of the Bronco has elevated the off road competition. I don’t think you would’ve seen Jeep offering 35” tires as soon as they did after the Bronco said you can get one from the factory with them. This is all benefiting the consumer and giving us more options. I just don’t know what Toyota is going to offer but I’m sure on powertrain level it will be similar to the Bronco for the 4Runner. If they were to bring back the FJ now that would be more of a comparison of the two.

I can’t stand the fender flares on the braptor. Otherwise cool vehicle. They look awkward. I think good should have wide bodied the fenders and then did wider flares that look more like the Sasquatch bronco.

The fender flares look like shit on the regular Bronco, also. I don't know why they didn't just make it wider. :notsure:

That, and the headlights (edit: the grille altogether) are the only things they really fucked up, IMO.

I just hope all of this competition will inspire Toyota to make the 6th gen 4Runner more off-road oriented. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

I agree that the Braptor fenders look terrible, but I like the fender on the regular one for its functionality.. I think if they made the body wider, it would look silly on the non-35-in tire models. Speaking of that, I think the models that come with the 31 or 32-in tires look really clean, since they don't have any flare.

The thing that's cool about the non-Raptor flares is that they're easily removable for trail use.

The bulged metal fenders on the current 4Runner look cool, but they're also vulnerable to body damage. I'd much rather scuff or rip off a plastic piece then cave in a steel fender on the trail.

Agree 100%! I hate the look of the Braptor flares, I'm hoping somebody will come out with an aftermarket solution. I do really like the Sasquatch flares, so I think your idea would probably look great. I think the front fenders on that are unique to the Braptor anyway, so I don't know why they didn't do that from the start.

I guess I just don't understand why they need to look so cheap. I'd hate to spend that kind of money and have it look like some ricer put Ebay fender flares on my vehicle.

Is the track width on the models with 35's really that much wider that they have to add cheap looking plastic?

My 03 4Runner had plastic cladding and fender flares, and managed to look decent. :notsure:

The flare is bad enough but that add on mudflap is absolute trash. Either mold it into the flare or leave it off.
