Water in intake manifold

We believe we have 2 issues going on.

1st, we have water in the intake manifold. We've taken the upper and lower manifolds off to check the tube that runs from the front to the back of the engine. Overall, it's in pretty good shape and has only a small round rust spot indicating it has a leak on the bottom. It doesn't appear to be enough of a leak to justify the amount of white smoke blowing out of the engine. And, all of the manifold gaskets look good, even though they are crisp, so we don't know how the water gets into the manifold. We are trying to get that tube out, but it appears we're going to have to get further into the engine to get it out. It's too wide at one end and doesn't seem to be able to rotate enough to get it out.

2nd, power is horrible. RPM's aren't too bad but going uphill you can get about 10mph max. Level ground, you can get up to 35-40mph. We're assuming this is a head gasket issue, not so much a problem caused by water in the manifold. We'd appreciate some wisdom.

Blown head gasket.

 

White smoke is head gasket. Yes, water in the intake is from either cylinders leaking from the head and blowing it back up into the intake or the crisp gaskets you have on the intake. It crisped from running too hot. The pipe your fighting with goes to the water by pass. If that area is not full, high chance it's fine. It u's back into the block so don't break it tugging on it.

Get a book from autostore, on you car and follow the procedure for replacing the head gasket, make sure your bolts go back into the same holes. And temperature does matter when dealing with a head, if you let it get hot or cold it could warp it. So be ready to pull it scrape gasket, wire brush clean, new gasket, and sealer. And get the head back on.

You will have to change oil/filter, radiator fluid, and more than likely spark plugs.

Be genital with the connectors you heated them and they may be brittle.
