After entirely too much research, I stumbled on what seems the perfect compromise between weight, off-road capability, fuel efficiency & aesthetics in the Firestone Destination XT.
It is a “C” load tire weighing only 40 lbs in the 255/75r17 version. I’m going to give this tire size a go vs 265/70 primarily for slight gain in ground clearance without lifting. Going with “C” load hopefully for more puncture resistance as I spend a great deal of time on forest service roads.
There is very little info on the web & they have been on the market quite awhile. Hoping someone on the board has some feedback…

This is kind of funny as I have looked at this tire as well for the exact same reasons. I’m interested in hearing anyones input.

I don't have any info on the X/T, but I'm sure it's a great tire.

I have had the Destination A/T's on my truck for almost 70,000 miles now. 285/70/17 P-rated at 42lbs. Fantastic tires that balanced really well and have never given me any issues.

Had a chance to put my eyes @ hands on the Firestone XT at their local service center.
Good looking tire with deep tread & lots of siping. However, the compound felt hard & they were designed for 3/4 & 1 ton trucks (which makes NO sense in this load range) according to rep I spoke with.
After much contemplation, I decided to go with 265/70 sl load General Grabber XT’s.
I know from experience that the beefier sidewalls & construction of C & E load come at a ride comfort cost.My driving is primarily on gravel (no large rocks or other obstacles) so sidewall strength isn’t critical in my application. Ultimately, I decided to hang on to softer factory ride.

I am planning to put Eibach pro truck shocks on soon to help with nosedive.

These Grabbers actually weigh 41.4 lbs (not the 44 listed) according to Generals website…

Got the grabbers installed today. Nothing above 10 on road force balance. Ride like factory Bridgestones with a slight hum.
Up to 75 mph with no feedback/shake in steering wheel. I’ll post more feedback once I have 5k or so & get to do some off roading.

I’ve had good luck with General Altimax tires, both all season radials and snow.

The Grabber’s are on my short list. But the empty holes for the studs would drive my brain crazy! Stupid brain.
