    I have a 2020 4Runner Off Road Premium.

Arming the alarm must be done manually. I'd like to set the alarm to auto-arm.

Can anyone tell me how this is done?

    Thank you.

Any customizable features are listed in the manual. I only recall the auto lock function for when you don't open a door after unlocking.

Manually? What you are wanting is to automatically lock the car after you get out and walk away? I don't think they have that.
They have options to automatically lock the doors when you put it in reverse or drive. And to auto unlock when you either shut off the key or put it in park.

I'll hook up my Techstream this weekend to look again but I don't recall that option. I know some of the earlier model 5ths like my old 2010 ,the alarm system had to be activated in Techstream and there was an option for glass breakage too but supposedly they never put the glass breakage sensors in.

    From the manual.
    Setting the alarm system

Close the doors and hood, and lock all the doors. The system will be set automatically after 30 seconds.

The indicator light changes from being on to flashing when the system is set.

    Deactivating or stopping the alarm

Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarms:

    • Unlock the doors.

    • Start the engine. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few seconds.)

    System maintenance

The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.

Items to check before locking the vehicle

To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of the following:

    • Nobody is in the vehicle.

    • The windows and moon roof are closed before the alarm is set.

    • No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

    Triggering of the alarm

The alarm may be triggered in the following situations: (Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)

    • A person inside the vehicle opens a door or the hood.

    • The battery is recharged or replaced when the vehicle is locked.

    Alarm-operated door lock

    • When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to prevent intruders.

    • Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing the battery.

I've owned many cars in the past that automatically armed themselves after 30 or 60 seconds. This includes locking the doors. I'd like to know that the vehicle will secure itself if I forget.

That's been hard to get used to with my '20. All my cars, including my old '08 4Runner, had aftermarket alarms that auto-armed and locked the doors. To this day I still go outside in the morning sometimes and my truck has been unlocked all night. I wish this was a feature we could "turn on".

Yes, and it is why I too would like to turn on the feature. I can't count how many times I've gone to the vehicle in the morning and it was open all night.

But sadly, I don't believe this is an option on the factory alarms.

Well, you could just lock your vehicle with the key or remote when you get out of the vehicle... Just saying...

And when you forget? The idea behind my post was to configure the alarm so that it will arm on its own if I walk away from the vehicle and forget to arm it.

I get what you want to do. How is the truck supposed to be smart enough to think for you? Do you trust the truck to know the difference when the key / FOB is inside before arming itself?

    Smart enough? It's simple.

When placed in passive mode, the truck will arm itself automatically after a defined number of minutes... unless of course you arm it sooner. Other vehicles I've previously owned would arm automatically after 60 seconds... unless I armed it sooner.

And you can't lock your doors when the fob is in the vehicle. So if you leave the fob in the car, the alarm won't arm.
