I think most of us want that extra torque but we don't want the extra $10k to $15k it's going to cost to get there without having the option to buy a cheaper straight gasser. It would be interesting to see if someone could run some potential numbers on the 6th gen 4Runner hybrid versus 5th gen total cost of ownership comparison for a year or two...

Not sure if lacking surveying equipment or even a basic level or just stupid.

Not sure if not understanding that a river flowing north doesn't mean it's flowing at an upward slope or just stupid.

There are articles out there comparing car models in the ICE configuration vs the hybrid configuration. Here’s one for the Camry, and a quote.

Money Under 30 points out that buying a hybrid car doesn’t necessarily mean immediate fuel savings. Assuming you drive about 15,000 miles annually, it might take over four years to recoup the money you spent to purchase the vehicle.

Still, hybrids are generally more reliable than their ICE counterparts, meaning less money spent on repairs. And though battery packs are expensive to replace, MU30 says these components can last around 180,000 miles before significant degradation.”

I’ve had a half dozen Tacoma’s and 3 4Runners over the last 20 years. Oil changes and spark plugs were the only expenses I had over hundreds of thousands of miles. I don’t buy the “generally more reliable than their ice counterparts” claim. In fact, the claim itself sounds suspect.

If I had 9 Jeeps over 20 years, I'd think Jeeps were reliable, too.

I also have had a lot of jeeps … And 4Runners and Land Cruisers … Jeeps are just a toy . I just traded in a 2021 Gladiator Diesel Rubicon , was a Lemon , had the VM Italian diesel I tried to love , I have the same diesel in a 2021 Wrangler JLU Rubicon and has been very dependable I’m getting 22MPG around town with 35’s .
Compared to my current 2022 TRD pro 4runner the jeep just a Toy .
I have a 2020 LC200 land cruiser and I actually like my 4runner better than the LC200 , just more user friendly , the LC200 have lost its heritage of the land cruiser linage , you have to use a touch screen to control just about everting thing is one of my biggest complaints .
I love my 4runner , just solid vehicle , I see lots of guys trade in the 4runners for jeeps and have buyers regrets a few months later because they are just a toy .

I bought a ATV for my off-road itch a while ago, after beating my daily driver vehicles off road and paying to much in parts and body damage, call me lame but I treat my new 4 runner like a new corvette...paid way to much to beat on it. + 4 wheelers can go more places (by me that is as NY sucks)

I do the same thing ATV’s are way cheaper to off-road . I don’t mind EV or even a EV ATV , I have a had a few electric vehicles and do like them , just get the best battery , I read Toyota , Subaru and VW are working a on a super battery for 2024 .
Being bled dry buy the cost to live is not going to motivate people to buy a EV , people are just going to cut back on driving unless they really need to which is fine because I see more traffic on the road now than before covid 2019 , it really is crazy , its not like there going to work either , all day long traffic … nobody works any more ?

It's hard to believe that hybrids would be more reliable than either straight ICE or straight EV, simply because of the added complexity. Yet in the real world hybrids seem to do quite well. The Prius is one of the only cars on the list of vehicles with high percentages exceeding 200K miles. (The other is the Toyota Avalon). You can chalk this up to Toyota's generally high quality, but regardless it shows that hybrids can make it for the long haul.

Time will tell for sure how things play out with EVs and reliability. Certainly they are simpler in most ways. How that translates into the real world? They look pretty good so far, but the proof will be in the pudding.

Nope there’s still some Brandon bucks going around I am sure (sorry I had to), why work when you can make more staying home...we have been short staffed at my place of employment ( state job, chilled water plant) they pay isn’t that appetizing to start off but you have the best benefits you can ever get. Not one person applied since may. But who cares about time off and good cheap health insurance when someone else gives it to you to stay home. Only + to this is I get all the over time I want which helps during these times. Same with the traffic where I am in Western NY. Unless people are in massive amounts of debt I don’t get how people live so lavish doing the bare minimum while I work my ass off. No debt here except the 4 runner payment and my mortgage. No vacations or kids either though. Have to make more time to enjoy the 4 wheeler...I highly recommend the Suzuki King Quad 750. Japanese perfected that quad just like the 4 runner.

Informative test of the F150 Lightning here. Shows its amazing performance, capability and S-Class levels of quiet -- and a user experience that in other ways is very similar to regular F150s.

    However, two key tidbits:

    1. They conducted their standard highway MPG test, driving a steady 75 mph for 200 miles. Result was 230 miles of range on the trim that is EPA rated for 300 miles (lower trim models are rated at 320).

    2. Towing a 5100 pound trailer at 70 mph reduced the range to 130 miles, and so they noted that realistically towing would require recharges about every 100 miles.

All of the above would work well for me, as I would still have ICE vehicles in the stable. But it does highlight that it may take the next generation of batteries, and better charging infrastructure, before widespread adoption becomes feasible for pickup truck owners. I think we're already there for many commuters who would otherwise be driving econo boxes, but trucks like this are for hauling big loads and towing etc. So these ranges would pinch a lot of users.

That's what my daughter and son-in-law do. They trailer their 4-passenger ATV with the Tacoma to wherever they are going to off-road. The rest of the gear in the truck's bed with a locked cover. Could be the best of both Worlds for many.

It’s a myth. During the height of the pandemic unemployment was made more generous, extended in duration and could be obtained by gig workers who were not ordinarily eligible. This indeed created a situation where some people felt they were better off not working, in addition to preventing hunger and homelessness for many who wanted to work but could not during a period of massive unemployment. This was enacted during the prior administration. It expired during the current administration. It has not existed for more than 9 months.
