I just was under my vehicle, and noticed the drivers side shock was pretty wet. The others look okay. Looks like the banjo nut leaked, which would be fluid. 55000 miles.
    Thoughts?
Is there any test to see if they are "bad" or low on fluid?
    Thnx in advance.

Per the pic 1 your XREAS are khaboom if that resedue is from shocks.

Show it to a good 4x4 shop to confirm. You could replace all 4 with regular shocks. If you want to replace I think Toyota would ask you to buy 2 that are cross linked. XREAS are only available at Toyota as far as I know.

    Edit-
If you haven't remove these shocks for a spacer lift or something you could try to convince Toyota to give some discount for XREAS failing at low miles.

I will be going to Toyota soon. I doubt anything can be lowered in cost nowadays. But, I will probably go with Eibach system all the way around.. Looks good for my truck, price point etc.

My XREAS went out on my 2016 Limited 4WD @ 46K.
I replaced with good set of shocks and even added a leveling kit. I have not noticed any issues with ride quality.
Check out “The Car Nut” on YouTube. Very knowledgeable about X-REAS.

Looks like normal road dirt. If your XREAS shocks were leaking, they would be wet.

The banjo nut can leak, as it is the same as a brake banjo nut. I am thinking it is leaking a tad and the airflow into this area has been slowly moving it and dirt has been collecting. Its wet. Passenger side not so much or the rears.
I am going to have the dealership and a 4x4 shop look at them, when I go to look at what shocks they carry on site.

Do you know the brand and model of the shocks you installed after your XREAS went out? My wife's 2018 XREAS still looks good (only 38K miles). But just getting prepared for the inevitable.

XREAS is definitely shot as others have said. Best path is replacing within traditional shocks as you are doing. Did this on my 14 Limited. Went with Dobinson with 3/2 lift but now strongly considering TRD PRO Fox for more compliant ride. Dobinson too stiff compared to the ride my PRO has. I think I am just getting old.

I like the idea of the leveling kit and Eibachs Stage 1?system. I will start analyzing systems.
    Eibach seems fitting for me.
I want it to handle better, not nosedive when braking. Rake isnt a deal maker, but I really dont want to do upper control arms, if I dont have too. Leveling it is a bonus, but not needed. I wont be rock climbing with this Runner.. Its more of a traveler that will go off road mud , snow, lite trails to get to lakes, streams etc type vehicle.
My Corvette went super stiff suspension. Wont do that again, as I am getting older physically, 54.
