Hopefully this posts. Good read. How much is your time worth?

“The F-150 Lightning was able to travel about 90 miles before needing a charge, but they didn't run it until it was completely dead. Efficiency came in at 0.7mi/kWh. Meanwhile, the GMC Sierra covered nearly 160 miles, and the dash display showed 8.9 mpg.”

“It cost Tommy less than $30 to charge the Lightning, though it took a good amount of time. The gas truck used about $100 in fuel, but you can fill it up almost instantly.”

I'd like to know more specific information about what they were towing, how fast, etc.

On a side note. What will it cost an electric semi to transport goods?? Not in fuel cost but in time. Most truckers get paid by mileage at the moment. If it’s not efficient, demand goes up. And prices with it. Just food for thought.

I believe the general plan is to twist legislators’ arms into approving driverless semis. No labor costs, except for maybe paying somebody to plug the trucks into chargers at evenly spaced charging depots. Wait, they could do that autonomously too. Local drivers would do final mile deliveries, Im sure using an uber style system to squeeze every last drop out of anybody trying to make a buck.

    Good conclusion to that article:

“Are you considering an electric pickup truck like the F-150 Lightning or Rivian R1T? Is towing a concern? If so, what's the solution? Avoid an electric truck entirely, wait for the technology to improve, or simply live with it and make it work for you?”

Yeah I don't think masks are part of a conspiracy. I just don't think they work. We clearly see the world different which is fine. I didn't say what you said is idiotic. I said I disagree because where I live its a completely different world. Enjoy yours and I will enjoy mine. This thread is not about masks. Its about the stupid pricing of Toyota’s. I’m actually thinking about buying a 3rd Gen local to me and selling my 5th Gen and have no debt if it’s worth a shit when I look at it.

6th gen doesn't really matter to me since I'm not getting rid of my 5th gen for 10+ years:)

But I'd rather see a hybrid, or just a v6 turbo..

Yeah riding a bicycle is hard for some of them so I highly doubt they can make EV infrastructure a reality. Then the next administration will halt that program and then next one will halt what the previous administration does. I will be done driving by the time they figure this out so I'm not worried about EV.

Unfortunately, a lot of what many people call "facts" do not meet the definition of the word "fact". I would guess that an implicit part of Thatbassguy's statement regarding people relying on numbers and facts, is that they often do so without confirming the legitimacy of said facts or having a solid understanding of the numbers they're using to support their argument.

    Just a guess though!

The near term is to make EVs available to the folks they do work for. And then there's a proposal to go fully electric in 28 years for all new vehicles. When it comes to development of technology, 28 years is an eternity. And no one's taking away anyone's ICE vehicles in the long term, it's just a nudge from government to industry to start moving toward a transition to EVs. The engineering will follow, as usual.

Edit: We're living in the golden age of ICEs. Never before has so much power been so efficiently squeezed out of engines, while not putting out toxic emissions. I'm pretty excited about what the future holds for electrics. Based on what's out there now in it's relative infancy, I think it'll be pretty cool.

Respectfully, in the U.S. the people nudge the government, not the other way around.

Nudge the government toward what? Sticking with what makes profits instead of what progresses society? Look at environmental regulations since 1970...fixing dead rivers, eliminating lead compounds in the air, doing away with landfills on the back-40. The environment has gotten exponentially better and industry has thrived at the same time.

Things have to keep moving forward to make life better for everyone. The governmental nudge for more powerful vehicles with instant torque and better reliability doesn't bother me, and is encouraging to think what we can achieve starting with 150 year old technology.

You think the government did all that because those elected by the people are just good, honest folks? Governments, or rather those serving in them, are only interested in two things. Power and money. That’s it. They don’t care about you, or me, or fixing dead rivers, or eliminating lead compounds in the air, or doing away with landfills in the back 40, or any other altruistic endeavor. Nope. They will do whatever it takes to maintain power and money. And if we the people aren’t very, very careful, that power and money will come from sources other than us. If the people insist on clean energy, and hold our elected officials accountable, it might happen. That is if it will result in them remaining in power, and thus money. If we allow other influences to provide the power and money we will get something other than the will of the people. Take a close look at those in power today. Or two years ago if you like. They couldn’t care less about us and our dreams.

I’m not sure what to make of this article. They talk about poor “quality”, but most of those complaints are about infotainment and connecting to CarPlay and Android Auto. Nothing about how critical systems work or how the cars actually perform.

I just read another article about software problems. Like you said. Lots are pretty minor, but why? Some of this tech has been around for a good amount of time.

I would probably just be annoyed.

Yes. As cars become more like computers they are experiencing typical software release issues. That is, to get the latest greatest product or software feature to market before the competition the bean counters essentially force the engineering/development/test/qualification teams to release software products before they are ready.
The auto buying public becomes the testers of new software, to their frustration. The company’s attitude is “we’ll fix it in the next release”
