EVs have their place but until they can approach ICEs in range and refueling time ICEs will still be around.
Myself I would have to go with a hybrid, you wouldn’t have to be concerned about being stranded.
If you run out of charge with a pure EV what are you going to do? You can’t have a buddy bring you a can of electrons.
Edit: Another thought is the weight. EVs are quite heavy because of their battery pack. I’d be willing to bet a ICE 4wd would be superior off road compared to its EV counterpart. My Cummins with its 1,200# engine and +6,800 curb weight is terrible, any kind of soft stuff it dives like a submarine, Goldie with all 116hp will do circles around it all day off road.
Goldie has a Detroit TruTrac in the rear and weighing only 3,760 might even give our new ORP at 4,750 a run for its money.
Btw TruTracs work fantastic.

 

Yeah, weak. A gas guzzling 4Runner can get 400 out of a tank if driven conservatively as well.

But, in order to truly judge, I'd have to know what conditions the range is based on.

Work truck is a Silverado, V8, 4wd, extended cab. My previous V6, regular cab 2wd could get 550 easily, but it had a 34 gallon tank.

Agree regarding range and refueling. But ironically, given this conversation about the F150 Lightning, your friend could in fact bring you electrons. The F150 Lightning (and some upcoming other EVs) can in fact charge another EV. Just like the Lightning can power your house for a few days in a blackout.

 

The V6 4×2 was a '19. The current one is a '22. It's a really nice truck, actually.

 

And how big is a 5th gen tank? 4wd?

 

5th gen tank is 23 gallons. 20+ MPG is pretty easy to achieve if you're not in the city and not in a hurry, even with 4wd.

 

You think these are "good numbers? mpg wise? lmfao Do the math on 550 miles on a 34 gallon tank on an under powered v6. That's 16 mpg, shit. Your ancient, anemic v6 in your 4R getting 20 mpg? My 15 year old v8 AWD 4R does the same highway, not impressive. And that's before you tow, since you said you do that.

First off, 550 was average, on a 29-30 gallon fill up. Also, that was with hauling around a giant gang box in the bed and ladders hanging out.

My ancient, anemic V6 got over 21 miles per gallon when I tried (before lift and bigger tires). My 03 V8 never once got 20 miles per gallon in the 190,000 miles I put on it.

And, no.. Nobody who voted "leave it be" thinks they're getting good mileage. They are just willing to trade off a little fuel economy for proven durability and reliability.

 

And how much are they paying for that trade off? lmfao. Dude, I'm not trying to argue with you at all. A lot of people are literally advocating for paying out the ass for gas over and over again and complaining about it. What part of that seems logical?

It's not about money. It's about being able to travel without worrying about breakdowns and stopping for hours to charge batteries.

You'll never understand it. And, you don't have to. Everyone has their own values and priorities.

Nobody is advocating for paying out the ass for gas. Most of us have been complaining about high fuel prices. And, since there's still not a real alternative for the way we travel, we're stuck paying it.

Amen!! I knew this thing couldn’t get out of it’s own way getting up to speed. I also knew the gas mileage wasn’t great. Lastly, I knew this would be the last off-road vehicle I would have to purchase.

Yep. Being in Texas, especially, I can imagine trying to travel at all with an EV. I have driven to Austin twice. All I can say is that Texas is freaking huge. That 230 or 320 mile range wouldn't get you very far.

 

Yeah when I'm trying to go to Utah its takes about 7-8 hours to get out of this freakin state. Sitting 30-45 minutes will ruin road travel in America. Maybe that's one of their many goals.

I saw a review/test on using a Lighting to power a house, not quite all its made out to be. When pressed the truck had trouble keeping 60Hz.

Once again. I have not seen a single post bagging on EV. It is a wonderful evolving technology that even Elon Musk thinks is not the future (he thinks it’s solar).

We get your point. All we ask is you get ours. Tech is not advanced enough. We are jumping into an area we are not ready for (tech and infrastructure) We are jumping ship from a reasonably good energy solution that works for everyone to get into one that works…..for some people. I can’t personally use EV. While I would love to, I would be one of those sitting and waiting for it to charge because of my commute distance, calling my boss telling her that my car is charging.

One of the best things about getting older is perspective.

When I was younger, I could be very judgmental. I thought I knew the right answers and everyone else was just living in the past. Now that I'm " middle-aged", I can look at the hackiest electrical work and a lot of times I can figure out why they did it that way. LOL

But, some people can't look at things that way. I don't think young people can be as open-minded as they claim to be. All they have is numbers and facts, but they have no life experience to give them perspective.
