Is that 9 inches measured from the backseat footwell or from the cargo area floor?

That’s 9 inches from rear cargo floor. I sized it for the storage containers I wanted to use underneath it, and leave enough headroom for sleeping. The platform top is just under the top of the wheel well cubbies. Two plywood pieces that lay on top of each other with the back seats in upright position when not in use. When assembled the two pieces are snugged together using turnbuckles in the four tie-down D-rings. Height of the platforms provided by 3/4 inch threaded plumbing pipes and flange fittings. The pipes to support the platform in the rear seat floor area are longer and I needed some 1/2 inch boards to shim to match the height of the rear platform. Also I built a slide out table for food prep.

The boxes are the small 8 gallon Rubbermaid Action Packers.

The shotgun is a cheap NEF Pardner 12ga that I bought used for $100, it's a clone of the 870 (see image below, also). It was my truck gun for camping trips and such for years because it was so cheap I didn't really care if it got beat up. I sold it to a friend before we moved cross country last year. Before I had a rack in the 4R on the rear headliner by the hatch window (which is visible in the top of picture 2 in the post you quoted) I just kind of shoved the shotgun under the passenger seat bottoms or behind those Rubbermaids as shown.

If a follow up question is "what is the rack" I will get ahead of that real quick; it is a Big Sky Rack SBR-1G with a QD nylon strap in the middle in place of the aluminum clamp that the rack comes with:

^ Looks great, the rack that is. I was looking at option for my rifle, and this looks nice..
As far as sleeping, I will look at the 4runner when I get home. My cooler is a bit bigger, so I may need to reevaluate my needs...
    Thnx again.

Sure thing. There's a thread I think on rifle storage and this rack makes an appearance there, but to shortcut you searching for it -

The rack bolts to the existing coat hook mounts on the back ceiling, and you basically use a small spacer to push it out from the headliner slightly. I used a slightly longer than stock bolt to mount it to the Toyota welded-in nut and had to slightly drill out the rack mount to accommodate the larger diameter of the bolt, but no drilling to the 4R and install is super fast and it's rock solid even with only two points of mounting to the ceiling. It also easily accommodates different guns.

I've had this rack in 3 different trucks now (2 4Rs and a Tacoma) and it's a great product. If you want a 2 gun version the SBR-2G has two mounts; actually this is a SBR-2G but I removed one set of mounts which essentially makes it an SBR-1G. They used to be in stock at Cabelas stores several years ago for around $100 or less.

I have no idea why I used an orange strap for a while... it made sense at the time...

Maybe you went orange as it is very safety oriented for hunting? Love lever actions too..
Regardless I really like that mount and cargo net too..

Interesting! Thanks. I'm still arguing with myself over headroom versus hiproom.
