yes - I swear one of the top reasons I bought a 4Runner is because the dog likes the rear window. Happy dog vs good mileage, modern technology, more than one USB port up front, modern drive train, auto headlights? Seems like a reasonable trade :)

The 4runner is luxury in terms of reliability and capability. I didn't buy mine because it was fancy. Although I will say she cleans up real nice.

I think it’s fancy to my standards with a sunroof and heated leather aka ‘softex’ seats, lights under the side mirrors and floors / doors also with defrost features. Meets the standards of my 2001 Tahoe LT that was ‘fancy’ for the year lol...I like the comforts but simple at the same time.

I think the current 4R about hits the sweet spot on features vs simplicity, on all trims but especially on the Limited, except for the internet connection and active safety features. I still don't trust automatic emergency braking, much more so when it is hackable over the internet. But thankfully the 4R has not yet succumbed to "features" such as automated steering for lane keeping.

I don't object to information, such as blind spot and lane-keep alerts, but I do object to a computer being able to steer or stop my vehicle against my wishes.

I do agree about the steering wheel, but it really only bothered me the first few weeks as I drove down from Humboldt to Oakland in the ‘21 GX and back in the ‘21 ORP.
The GX shares the same steering wheel as the LX and while I don’t dig wood, the leather was leaps and bounds better.

Ultimately, the only thing that really bothered me was the quality of the audio system. Adding great music to venturing to some of the most scenic sights in the world is tops.

I really wish they had left the button on the remote to lower the rear glass. I miss that feature as I used the hell out of it on my 2000. I know the buttons are on the back tailgate, just not the same.
And I wish they would adopt Honda's press and hold the unlock button to open all of the windows.

Check out Carista to customize for the all-open windows remote control.

Was going to say, you can activate this. It's just not activated from the factory. For good reason too, I've found my windows down after my kids have gotten ahold of my keys.

    What is Carista?

I actually paid the dealership to activate this, but they could not get the fob to open the rear window. Mine is a '19 ORP.

How stupid was I to pay for it? :anonymous:

I got Carista and changed the setting to open all the windows with a long press of the unlock button on the fob. I wish I could exclude the sunroof.

Carista is a Bluetooth dongle that you plug into the OBDii port under the dash. When paired with the Carista app on your smartphone it allows you to change many of the “dealer only” settings. The dongle costs $30 and the app has a subscription fee. I chose the $10 1-month subscription. So I made all the changes I wanted over a month and canceled the subscription.

When you buy the Carista OBDII dongle for $30 you get a free 1 month subscription to make your changes, test them, and tweak as needed. Definitely worthwhile.

Then you can keep the dongle installed, get a phone scanner app such as “Car Scanner OBD2” and use it to monitor various vehicle sensors like coolant and transmission temps.

Yep. Carista is also useful for disabling the seatbelt chime. I often go without seatbelts when I'm off-roading and it's annoying to hear it chime every time you jump back in the truck.

Thank you for mentioning that! That's something else I might do if I get one. I often drive short distances on private property and sometimes just deal with the chime when I know I'm getting back out in a minute.

For $30 I might have to get it just to disable the chime, didn’t know you could do that to a 2022 vehicle without cutting a wire and having 10 problem codes stored in the computer. My old Tahoe never had a chime and 100% got used to that. Ahhh the good old days.

Yeah my old Explorer did not have that either. I could drive with no belt on and no ding; open the door have in reverse backing up and no problem either.

The rear window switch placement is bad and no rear window ajar but there is one for the sunroof.

    That’s awesome thank you.

How about something so I can back up in reverse without a warning ⛔️

I have some tight spots to back a trailer up and am so used to opening the door a sec while in reverse.

I suppose I should retrain my brain to mirrors only or get a longer neck to stick out the window.

Carista can get rid of the seatbelt warnings, except for the 5 dings you get at startup without your seatbelt connected. And the key reminder when opening the driver door after parking with engine off. Although there is a hack to get rid of that.
IF you have a keyed ignition, that is:
