I never said that anyone had said that. But, people like to throw that term around when talking about electric vehicles without thinking. I just like to point out that the production causes emissions, as does the production of most electricity. The world will have to change a lot before we actually see a zero emissions vehicle.

Eventually, there might actually be a type of actual green vehicle. But, the current electric vehicles are nowhere near it. They are a little better than ICE vehicles, though.

If you're going to call people idiots for calling them zero emissions, back it up.

I agree with many of your points but I think you're a little off base here. I don't think anybody is making the argument that electric vehicles are generating emissions while they're being driven. It's the emissions generated from cradle to grave of the electric vehicles that many people tend to overlook. From the raw materials to manufacturing to charging to disposal, there are plenty of environmental concerns and "emissions" generated in every step.

 

WHY? First you dump Trillions of dollars in funny money into the economy. Then, you campaign - and eventually create policies - to reduce fossil fuel production. Demand remains high, yet now production is lower. Prices go up.

You have to turn your head the other way when you look at the graph. Things will look much better if you do that, just invert your head to the left and look the other way as instructed.

 

Then it's a bullshit term. If emissions must be created to produce and power something, it's not a zero emissions product.

Zero emissions vehicle is just a buzzword to make people feel good about themselves. And, try to push a political agenda.

I think he was talking about just a every day driver. I’m in the same boat. With the tech the way it is at the moment, I wouldn’t be able to use an EV for day to day. One day I’ll get an EV. Just need the tech to advance more than it is now.

 

EV's are def more geared towards homeowners, and the main issue is the lack of infrastructure atm. Gas stations are everywhere, just not enough EV charging stations for in between charges. Do you have a long commute?

Tell me again how that's going to work when I have to drive 200 miles to get to the trails? Better yet, tell me how that's going to work for someone who spends days traveling through the middle of nowhere, without a charging station anywhere nearby?

I never denied the benefits of an electric vehicle. I'm just trying to point out the shortcomings.

 

If I had a 4Runner EV what happens when we get hammered by a cat4 hurricane here in Florida and every substation within a hundred miles is inoperable

Actually I was referring to how impractical it is to travel with an EV. Even if there are charging stations in the area you are traveling to, you still have to wait for it to charge.

I'll drive 1400 miles in about 21 hours to visit my mom in Florida. That same trip would take about twice as long in an EV. I only have so many vacation days. I don't want to waste one waiting for my car to charge.

I actually think electric vehicles are perfect for commuting and running errands around town. If I could afford to have one as a second vehicle, I would not be opposed to it. Although, it wouldn't be my first choice.

 

What's the current price for a gas 4r rn? What do you think your fuel costs will be with an EV?

 

Yes sir! Long commute and I wouldn’t be home long enough to charge the vehicle fully

 

For me right now gas for the 4Runners about $2,400 annually

 

Lol! I'm not going to work that hard and buy extra vehicles just so that I can off-road in an electric vehicle.

As of now, any electric 4x4 has limitations that would keep me from wanting them. Not to mention that most of them are ugly as fuck.
