Toyota Pricing WOW!!

Executive order #14008, tackling climate crisis home and abroad. It’s sets the tone for the oil industry, section 208 pauses all new leases, which means no new growth. I know they have lots of leases already, but if you are told your company can not grow or increase it’s commodities, what do you expect them to do? Limit the supply, reduce investments and get what they can get from the cows they already have. So, based on my own research reading the executive order, and understanding human greed, I will take my non political feelings and move on. I didn’t vote for the former President by the way, but I am wondering if more of us could have gotten over the way he treated people…

 

With the economy where it is and headed where it is, it’s dam near impossible to talk about life without the conversation about who is driving the bus, and what direction they are steering.

There's a Dealer near me advertising the exact 4R I have (except color) with twice the mileage of mine, for $2,000 more than I paid for mine new, with no miles. What a crazy market.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know squat about the car business. You don't have a clue how much manufacturers make when they "sell" a vehicle to dealers, and how much dealers make on customers who have no clue wtf they are talking when they purchase a vehicle, even at "MSRP". You obviously haven't been paying attention to the pricing on new vs. used either. And nice job saying "if it pushes me out of a new vehicle because I can't afford the price increase". Really? Majority of used cars are more expensive than new. Pull your head out of your ass, man.

It’s looks like today’s price on new 4Runners is about right, considering inflation.

I picked my 4R up in January this year. Kind of a spur of the moment thing. Traded in a fairly new silverado for the 4r.

Drove it off the lot for $38,000. TRD off road. Sticker was $43,000. I think I did ok. Have wanted a 4R for awhile.

Theres alot I like about it, and a few things I dont. Do I miss a truck, yes at times I do.

I had a deposit on a 2022 tundra but decided to keep the 4r instead. Payments affordable, insurance is less and it will go just about anywhere I need it to and it does great in bad winter weather.

So due to the economy, inflation, my loan thru my bank is a fixed 2.9%, I am holding steady.

Gas prices suck, I paid $5.39 this morning to fill up. 9.5 gallons cost me $52. I will keep driving as long as I can afford it.

 

Trying to talk about the economy/gas prices without mentioning politics is sort of like trying to talk about cosplay without mentioning comic book superheroes. The two just go hand in hand.

I wouldn't say that the current administration is 100% responsible for the current prices, but they definitely have a large influence. They have been pretty openly against anything ICE related.

Much like firearms and ammunition prices/sales always skyrocket whenever there is a democrat administration in office. It's not that president Obama and then Biden were pushing and encouraging people to go out and buy guns and ammo. It's the opposite; it was their strong anti 2a rhetoric that drove prices and sales through the roof.

I know that my analogy isn't perfect, because people aren't necessarily panic buying gasoline for fear of a ban. But the point is that whenever any administration - Democrat or Republican - pushes rhetoric and creates policy against any industry, the effects on pricing and supply are huge.

 

When politics has had a demonstrable and obvious negative effect on the issue being discussed it makes sense to include it in the discussion.

 

It’s like fear of the pandemic creating toilet paper shortages. It’s illogical, but human nature is stupid.

@Thatbassguy Canada is close to 2.20 a liter, way over $8/gal. With our driving, I am looking at $700-$800 a month in gas for the 4Runner. In 5 years I am looking at $48000 in gas alone. Take a deep breath and let that sink in for a second. I know gas will not stay this high, but the numbers are terrifying nonetheless. We love the 4R, but man....this is scary shit. We decided to go EV, I don't care what the next 4R is in the future, hybrid, turbo, we can't be caught again with our pants down because some CEO or some saudi needs a new yacht or crying after reduced profits during covid.

@mac1usa we are there now. In Canada, I know, but we are there now. My last fillup was about $140. I can't do that long term.

Initial price 2023 is off the chart. You gotta bring in some serious coin at home to be able to afford a new one and the gas on that.
The way I see it, EV for commuting and an ATV for the offroad itch. Problem solved.

I sure hope we can keep the personal attacks and name calling of one another down so this thread doesn’t get locked. I don’t really get offended by factual political comments. It doesn’t matter what capital letter they have after their name, they’re gonna do whatever it takes to maintain they’re power and money. Everything is driven on those two things. They don’t care about me or my problems. When I really let that sink in about 10 years ago I became much more focused on my own actions and responsibilities.

Containers for everything under the sun, much of our clothing, construction materials, daily use items (toothbrush, straws, eyeglasses etc), auto parts, furniture…ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS…yep, carbon is carbon, so we can, and do, make virtually everything out of it. The prices for all that stuff is going to go up a bunch too. It has to. Freshman economics.

Short answer, yes. Model Y can tow 3500lb, Ioniq5 1500lb, Model 3 about 2000lb. Which means you can hook up a light duty trailer and throw in there a medium size ATV. I would expect a generous 50% range loss and longer charging times, but the costs are way, way, way less than gas. It is not for everyone, I am willing to put up with the inconveniences given I am not going with the ATV out every weekend.
I would definitely consider an EV 4runner in the same price range as the Y.
And also, ane EV (at this point at least) can't do that my current 4Runner does: serious offroad and incredibly reliable.
Things are changing for sure.

 

Except that it's happening all over the world, and the US is square in the middle of the pack when it comes to inflation rates. US politics are a relatively small factor when it's a global phenomenon, but people keep trying to make it out like there's a single or narrowed cause just to make it easier to fathom.

 

I don't know where you're looking. I pass by a couple used car dealers every day. They've got a decent amount of cars.

 

I liked how you could just not pay for all of the things that come standard now that you're forced to pay for it even though I'd love to save the money and not have it to begin with.

 

Then, I don't know. Look at Italian dealerships. Indian dealerships. Oh wait, are you talking about Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru dealerships selling used cars? You know there's a whole world out there beyond those places, right? Heck, you might still be able to go to a Ford or Chevy dealer and find a used Toyota on their lot that they're maybe selling at a not completely exorbitant price because it's an embarrassment to them to have to sell it.

 

EVs can do whatever their designers want them to do . There just isn't a demand RIGHT NOW for EV haulers.
