Bilstein front shocks, OME rear shocks, 31 inch tires, rebuilt 3.0 V6 HI-PRO engine 190HP, 210 FT?LBS Torque, Downey Off Road Coil over springs, Yakima Roof Rack Cross Bars, 4x4, Tow Package
Hello all happy to be here.
I just purchased a 1990 Second Gen 4Runner SR5 and Iam stokked! It does have a few issues and Iam hoping to find some help and answers on this forum. Here are the details and some pictures.
    1990
    4x4 4 door
30 V6 HI-PRO engine (previous owner put it in at 215,000 on the odometer it currently has 241,000) Engine was constructed byu EPM Machine in Portland Oregon, they claim 190HP and 210 FT torque which seems a little high to me does anyone else have this engine.
    Downey Off Road Coils
    OME shocks in rear
    Bilstein shocks in front
    tinted windows
    31/10.5.15 BF Goodrich Tires
    here are some pics

    Here are the issues,
Idles really inconsistent occasionally it will die at standstill unless i give it a little gas
The exhaust pipe was completely rusted through where the rear pipe connects to the muffler. For a temporary fix I cut a few inches off muffler and stuck the rear pipe back into the whole then wrapped it with that TIGER Black exhaust tape a few times then clamped it with exhaust clamp. This helped a lot, but I think the air intake or the Idle air flow valve is clogged. That's my best guess does anyone else have any ideas on how to fix this.
I have bough a cherry bomb m80 muffler i plan to install, has anyone had any experience with these. thank you for all the help!!!
also it didnt specify if there was a lift kit on it or just the upgraded shocks. It obviously is sitting 2-3 inches higher then stock at least what do you guys think based on the pics?

thank you! ya I love it, also the back window wont roll up or down. It worked just fine for the first 2 days, then all the sudden it does not move when i turn the key left or right. I can hear the motor clicking in the rear driver side wall above the rear drivers side tire. Any ideas how to fix, note there is no rear wiper so the motor in the panel above the window does not have the rear windshield motor.

Good looking rig and welcome. As for the motor, I have never heard of that company. The rear window has a relay box behind the rear panel on the drivers side. You can get those on ebay as new ones cost upwards of $700. Part # is 85930-89105-165000-3041. Pretty easy to replace once you find the box. Definitely get the exhaust fixed properly. I don't know of anyone going with Cherry bombs anymore. As for your suspension, pictures would help us to identify what you have.

Thanks! I will get some pics and post them asap of the suspension. The m80 muffler was a good deal at auto zone so I just decided to hug it, the sound tests sound decent on YouTube so that’s be fine. Sony think the window engine went out? That’s sounds crazy pricey, is there any other issues it might be?

Not the motor, just the relay box. It is a common issue with this generation. You can actually test the window motor by taking off the panel for the door and removing the connector. Hook up leads to the end pieces and connect to a good battery. If the window goes up and down, then it is most likely the relay.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Pull the window relay box from behind the drivers side panel an cut open the plastic covers over the relays on the board and take strips of sandpaper and burnish the contacts. You can use electrical tape to re-cover them.

Also take a thin piece of plastic(old credit/gift card) and run it along between the window and weather strip. The weather strip accumulates dirt and sand on the sealing surface over the years and creates more friction thus increased current load on the relay which causes arcing and poor contact. I’ve had to do this several times in 32yrs. The window will move slightly faster too.
My son went to the trouble of de-soldering the relay for the washer(like new) and swapped it with the window relay. I loaned him Goldie to use at college for a few years. Engineers do things right ya know.
