First fake TRD Pro I have seen in the wild

As a TRD Pro owner I can tell you that I've never looked down on any other trims. I like to check out the accessories used in other people's builds. These are amazing trucks and I appreciate them all. All tasteful and useful mods get a thumbs up from me. The people most affected by the Pro trim level are certain owners of other trim levels for reasons I just don't understand. There are countless posts on every forum and subreddit by non Pro owners about all the reasons a Pro is a bad buy; I've never read a Pro owner bashing the choices of other trim levels. But as you said, this is just my opinion (and observation).

 

Yeah, you know, no matter how much we say it looks stupid, people still do it and think it's cool.

I have an engineer at work with a Magnetic Grey Toyota Tacoma SR5 2wd. He slapped TRD Pro stickers all over it. I parked next to it one day, and looked under, sure enough, 2wd. In fact, he didn't even have the guts to pull off the SR5 emblems. -_-

Same when I was in the F-Body scene. Fake WS6's and SS's was a big concern.

And of course there are way more SS Chevelle's etc around than were ever built.

 

Luckily, we don't get many folks like that here. Whenever anyone starts talking dumb like that, they seem to get run out of here quickly.

The PRO's Fox setup is definitely the best stock option for higher speed off-roading, washboards, etc. KDSS is advantageous in off camber situations. Neither is necessarily superior, because they serve different purposes. It's just what's better for each person's needs.

Honestly, if someone wants to modify for maximum capability, they're best starting with a standard off-road, or even an SR5 depending on how much they plan to do.

 

Thats a harsh generalization. As a pre-facelift SR5 owner, My thought is "Damn thats a sick runner right there".

My irrelevant opinion is TRD Pro owners are people who have the means to choose something more ready out the factory to go play. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well stated. I wanted the best equipped, off-roady 4Runner out of the box that I'd only be adding some light mods to. Since I'm not interested in a comprehensive build that involves replacing the suspension, I chose the Pro. Turns out Toyota had a trim level that suited my needs.

 

There is a third gen Tacoma prerunner That belongs to a guy at our local Toyota dealership that is completely badged out in TRD pro with bumpers and everything else you can imagine.... But it is 2wd!!!!! He has follow me on Instagram badges and stickers all over it.

 

I have personally not experienced that or heard of it to be a common issue but wouldn’t that be the same for all trims?

dual climate rather than automatic climate. Gives you the ability to have different temp between driver and passenger. Most might not care, for me literally every female in my family cannot handle ice cold AC even in AZ. I’ve learnt to keep them happy and your overall experience will be much better
Really, it was either that or I’d have to adjust to their temp settings so a must for me. Can’t believe only limited and pro have these when it’s been in most cars for years. ORP definitely should have had it IMO (same goes for auto headlights)

I have not noticed any wind noise on mine, although I don’t love at all the pro rack. Wish I could have opted out of it. On my to sale list…

In the US, PRO does not have indicators on mirrors. Maybe Canada?
Regarding the highway spare tire, it’s beyond stupid from Toyota at this price point.

No, because they put the Fox shocks on when they arrive in the US. So, factory alignment specs can be skewed.

The off-road wheels are 17 × 7.5", while the Pro wheels are 17 × 7".

After dealership crashed my mofified ORP the TRD Pro is the closest they have as replacement.

 

Did they crash it on a test drive?

 

When they bring it home after service.
During covid time I choose the pickup from home and deliver back to home service.

 

Since I saw a fix for the blower motor fan speed from the headunit firmware update I ask "car care nut" and looks like only dual climate control like you have on TRD Pro has software component vs trims have manual controls does not have any connection, it's all manual. Just sharing little things I learned in the lines of "KISS"..

First I have heard this. I dont have a pro, but I have a highlander with dual climate control, or automatic climate…now I dont even know anymore lol. I’ve always thought this feature sucked badly on the highlander, usually staying scorching hot when set to 68 degrees in winter. So I always turned it down one degree above the lower limit to keep it from boiling me. One degree cooler, and the heat goes off. It’s actually kind of useless and annoying. Could it be that toyota’s marketing dept tricked me with some sort of auto climate vs non-automatic climate control? Wait, if you are controlling climate, wouldnt that imply it’s done automatically? Otherwise it just be a heater/ac.

All I know is that I had an 2011 Optima for 7years and hardly ever needed to touch the climate control, like ever! 72 degrees and it would be perfect in winter and summer

I think sometimes, people run out of mods to do in their budget, and they get bored. It's easy to order a stick on badge from Amazon and apply it. I laugh when I see stuff like this.

Right now, what drives me nuts or grinds my gears is those Scion BRZ / Subaru (same car as I understand it) little cars. Guys around here buy them, lower them, set the wheels off camber, throw a big exhaust, wing, decals, flares, tune etc......and will still get their tails kicked by a stock basic sedan (Accord, Camry whatever). It's the current Civic of the Fast and Furious days.

I could be wrong, posers come in all ages, but I think most who do this type of thing are younger.

 

The 86/BRZ/FR-S is a great looking little car when modified tastefully. Add a turbo kit, and they can be pretty fast.

Edit: they can actually sound decent with a good exhaust. But, some of the cheap cat-back setups sound like garbage!

But, the ricers make them look bad. Stretching tires, ridiculous negative camber, etc, all actually negatively affect performance. I don't understand why people get into stupid modifications like that.

 

I agree! I have seen it done both ways! I wish I still had my Datsun 510! I think the 86 is as close as the old 510's were to the modern market. I'm still on the hunt for another 510 I can't pass up haha

In the AZ summer, I always set mine at the lowest and the wife at 74. Let me tell you, I’m glad i don’t to have to deal with 74 from my wife

 

My brother in law bought a 2020 Chevy 2500 Z71 during the height of COVID shutdowns. The dealer drove 100 miles to deliver it and took his old truck back as a trade in. 2 days later, he realized it wasn't a Z71 and they just threw on a badge (on only one side). They are still dealing with lawyers to get it straightened out. I think it was the Chevy dealer in Covina, apparently they changed their name a few years ago because they had such a bad reputation.

 

I would like to see someone change the hatch garnish to 'TOYOTA' like the grill, rather than '4RUNNER'... That said, once I saw it I may change my mind... Maybe a smaller '4Runner' badge on the lower corner of the hatch (old school?).

However, I am firmly in the debadge camp on all of my vehicles (except my son gave me the tri-color badge for Christmas so that's on there.) Pretty much the first thing I do is make sure the dealer decal and plate frame is gone and then assess factory badges from there...

 

I would love if they didn’t have the 4 runner across the hatch, and had a old school smaller logo in the corner, I hate it once one company started doing it they all did. I think GM was first? Especially making it a permanent standing on the tailgates

 

The people who would even know what a TRD Pro is would spot that fake from a mile away, so it begs the question, why?
