The dealer had the tire pressure at 35 psi and the tire looked round. The recommended tire pressure on the door jamb is 32 psi so I deflated them. Now it definitely doesn't look round. What is your tire pressure on 245/60-20? I've attached a picture, does it look flat?

    bone stock for now
It doesn't look flat. A new modern tire has a contact patch. It is not completely "round" if I am understanding your question. I would go by the pressure the owners manual says... but 2 or 3 more PSI isn't bad if out driving on the highway at high speeds.

I run 35psi. Tire manufacturer has a window for which the tire will be fine.
As others have said, as you drive temp will go up. Always check cold though..

Like the others mentioned, the tire is intended to have a small flat area on the bottom when properly inflated.

All 4Runners are 32. It's based on GVWR and tire size and load range. The 4Runner uses bigger tires than some other vehicles its size.

It would change if you switch to a different size or load range tire.

    - Wonder if the thoughts/issues with switching to a more aggressive/winter tire like Toyo T3 Or Bridgestone Blizzark on same 245/60-20 (Limited/TRD Sport).
Planning to stick with 245/60-20 ... not downsizing to 17s

When you change tires, different plys, designed for etc, they may require different pressures.

Yes. Anything other than the stock size and load range will require an adjustment.

Here is a handy tool for finding the appropriate pressure for a tire of different size or load range from stock:

I’ve been thinking about buying set of winter wheels. Going down to 17 inch wheel gives more winter tire options but the tread width increases to 265 mm. And I’ve read that on winter tire smaller tread width is better for slicing. So I’m in a quandary.

Holy crap I’ve been way the hell off. I’m driving around at 60psi on load E. I’m only admitting this here because no one lives near me to smack me in the face.

I highly recommend Nokian Hakkapliittas if you choose to get snow tires.

    Ouch! That must be rough!

LT tires do require higher pressure than their SL equivalent. In the case of a stock size 265/70/17 LT tire, it calculates out to 44 PSI. But, a lot of folks will run them a bit lower.

Going from 60 to 45 would be like going from a futon to a mattress. I’ll be getting that done today

17' wheels, Any pressure is ok.
I used to run 38psi(cold) and 41psi(hot) on the highway for one summer. this is stock tire pressure for transport. no problem.
in addition, the backup tire is 50psi for long time storage. it was also used with no problem.
In winter it falls to 30psi(cold) and 33(hot) also ok. lower than 29psi will trigger a warning. offroad can be as low as 25psi.
    so any 32-35psi(cold) is ok.

If you get a nail in the tire, the monitor will show pressure lower unusually than others.

    "Any" pressure is not okay.

At 38 psi, I would expect your tread to wear unevenly.

Off-road can be as low as necessary for the situation. Obviously, at some point you risk having the tire come off the bead. I run 15 to 25 depending on the situation. I might try even lower in some rocks this year.

I have a set Hakkapliittas on a Scion tC. I actually feel safer in that in the snow than I do in my 4Runner with three peak all-terrains. I don't recall the exact size that are on the tc. I know that they offer a version specifically for trucks and SUVs though.

I have been using this one for years. I used to autocross a lot and drag race my Corvette. Its what was recommended by many..
There are many out there that are fine..

Did you end up getting winter tires for your 20" wheels?

Did you notice the tire pressure at 35 psi while you were driving home from the dealer - or did you measure 35 psi after the vehicle was parked for some time. The 32 psi recommended tire pressure is cold pressure (after the vehicle has been parked for some time). If you saw on the multi-info display that the tires were showing 35 psi as you were driving home - and then immediately deflated to 32psi - the tires could be down to 29-30 psi easy when cold.

I run 38 in mine or it starts eating cornering edges off. Might be my driving. I get good even wear and don't have to adjust for extra load often or temperature differences. I was pricing another set of Bridgesone Dueler HL and it said 80k mile tire. Mine will have lasted about 30k on curvy mountain roads with Xreas. Hmmmm...I wonder what the problem is?

When I had my Limited, I would run 32-35 PSI for around town street driving and 35-38 PSI for long trip highway driving.
