    I have not got my 4Runner yet (any day now) but there has to be some kind a trans-cooler already. I have not researched anything about the trans other then being happy it is not a 8 or 10 speed because some of those modern transmissions are failing

    Never seen that before. Nice find!

    I'd also look into a cooler.

    There's only the in RAD cooler but no AUX external cooler like the Tacoma. You can add one like in this thread:

    I kind of wonder if adding a transmission cooler might over cool the transmission in the winter?
    I think adding ~3 quarts of fluid would help the trans without over cooling.

    If you are worried about cooling the fluid during towing a transmission cooler is the way to go. A few extra quarts of fluid will get just as hot in the summer when you are towing. If your true goal is to keep the transmission cooler when towing a transmission cooler is best. I have had several work trucks with coolers and never had a problem in the winter.
