I'm looking to modify the rocker molding on my 2016 Limited 4x4.

I have been reading a TON of post on how others did this and I have a question of you all to see if you think this idea I have might work.

Buying all the parts needed from Toyota to replace the rocker, flare extensions, end caps, and clips, and then have it all painted to match at a local body shop just seems like it will be way to expensive of a solution.

I am wondering if I use the ShrockWorks TE trim piece and purchase the end caps for the flares, and add the TE Mud flaps would that be enough to make it look complete and finished? Or would it look like I tried to rig it up? I'm wanting to add the ShrockWorks slider/steps on here and must do this conversion first.

Let me know what you think and if this could be a decent solution.

Here are the pics that Mark from ShrockWorks sent to me:

    Thank you

Any time you get rid of plastic in my opinion for solid steel it's never a bad think most of the time. If your budget is under a grand installed then this is a good option. If you want to drop some crazy cash then go the body shop route.

My .02. Get the solid sliders. Your get forum style and function all at the same time. Also don't get that bolt in crap. I'd you ever use it or get hit in the doors etc you will wish they were welded. It's extra protection for you and everyone else in the truck that and it really pisses off people at the mall when they swing there door open and dent there door in and you slider just has a chip in the paint. True story man. Crazy lady.... Anyhow.

    Buy sliders

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this and order the ShockWorks. I may have to order a few plastic parts from Toyota or try to make something to cover that one area at the base of the flare. I wish Bushwacker made a replacement flare kit for the Limited that could fix this area. looking at the pics that Mark sent it's not to bad. just worried that the wife will think it looks bad and when I just spent this much on a truck it should look finished. I really like the added protection that the sliders provide. When the lady hit yours with her door did she retaliate on your truck? I had a political bumper sticker on my last vehicle and someone keyed my car! I'll probably place my order tomorrow. I have read all the reports that it is kinda a slow process to get them delivered but from everything I have read it is worth the wait. Thanks for your input.

I did it. I have now ordered the Shrockworks sliders with full treads, and the TE trim that they sell. Now I sit and wait.

My Shrockworks sliders came in! :) They actually came in last week but I have not been able to put them on. Hoping I can get out there and get them on this weekend. I opened up the box and they look great! I think this was a good decision. Just hope that removing the Limited trim and installing their TE trim kit that I bought with them looks good. Just don't want it to look un finished or anything. I can not wait to see them installed on my truck. I think they will really add to the look. Thanks for the recommendations!

Does anyone know a place in the DFW/Arlington TX area where I can have my Shrockworks sliders installed on my truck? I got the old limited trim off and the new TE Trim kit that I got from Shrockworks installed with no issue at all. I was trying to put on the passenger side step/slider and the holes are not all lining up or threaded. They sent this things called "stick nuts" to use for the holes that are not threaded but I can't figure out how to get them in where they need to be. I went up to my local City Garage to see if they would be able to help and they said for legal reasons they don't install any mods. I'm going to search online and see what I can find but thought one of you may have the answer.

I love how the new TE trim looks I was really worried about that. The only thing that is a bit off is the screws are silver and they need to be black. (Nothing a little paint can't fix). Other than they they really look good. Now I just hope I can find a way to get these installed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'll post a couple of pics of the trim when I'm on my computer.

Not in your area. Maybe try a shop that installs lift kits and other mods. I went to a place that did lifts, etc. I had them install a lift and the sliders too. They seemed to do this type of thing all of the time. BTW - they did have to bore some of the holes a little bigger on my sliders. They didn't match up perfectly with the holes in the frame. Good luck.

I'll have to call around this week and see what I can find. I was thinking about doing a small lift/leveler kit. Nothing real high 1-2 inch.

Didn't want to lift it too much either. I put in a toytec spacer lift--2" front/1.5" rear.

I found a place in Arlington that I'm going to go see tomorrow. They install hitches, steps etc. when I talked to him he looked up the Shrockworks page and said that they would be able to do the install for me. I told him I really didn't think it would be to difficult, I just don't have the lifts to raise up the truck to really get under there. Laying on my back trying to figure it out was not working.

So hopefully I'll be able to get it done in the morning. I'll post some new pics when it's done.

I must say this truck is becoming an addiction. :). I'm now looking at some lift options to level it out. I will probably not be going off-road much if any. I'm a city boy but I like the look of the leveled pics I've seen online. I've also read some threads that say the upgraded suspension can help with the front end dive when stopping. Thanks for being here to help me support my new habit. :)

    Hello,

I am glad to have found your thread. I have a 2913 limited and I am having a huge issue with those “skirts”. The running boards are needed for my vertically challenged wife but the running boards for a limited hang too low.

I went under and found that it’s because of the side molding which are fancy but take up too much of the clearance.

Could you tell me what you did to get rid of those “skirts” how it worked out mane a few before and after pictures.

Just for the record. When changing out the limited/Sr5 pre-‘14 rockers, nothing needs to be painted except the door flare. It most people change only the rocker area and keep the door flare. Only difference is a square notch at the bottom of the flare vs it being flush. This is because the limited flare angle is different angle to be flush with the limited rocker.

Got a close-up of the 'door flare' you're referring to?

not sure why it posted sideways. But you can see how the limited flare is not flush with the non limited rockers.

Hi again DV, lol, I promise last question. I was about to order the SR5/Trail rocker trim and caps today and just want to make sure I am ordering the correct parts. Do you know if these are the correct part numbers that will fit a 2021 limited?

Got my Trail OEM rockers, caps, and grommets today and got them installed! Game changer! HUGE shoutout to DaytonaViolet for all the info, part numbers, guidance, and inspiration with doing some of these mods! Literally couldn’t have done it without you buddy! Next up, I ordered the Trail rear door fenders so they come down flush. I ordered some 3 step color match paint and am going to see how it works out. Worst case I’ll just wrap them in the color match vinyl wrap I have from doing my door handles. Pics to follow.
