Hey all, just noticed this under my 2018 4Runner and have no idea what it is. Looks like a larger hole with threads with two small holes on each side. If someone could help me out and let me know if there is supposed to be something there or this is normal would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to take a pic more zoomed out. Hard to tell what we are looking at but yes the 4runner has a shit load of holes in the frame that are there from the factory if it's not from rust

I can try and take another when I get home. Have this one as well. Don’t mind the oil spillage, the idiot cracked my oil filter housing and leaked all over. But just noticed this and was wondering what it was. Thanks.

Perfectly normal to have extra holes around the Runner frame. If you decide to add mods to your truck over time you will discover the purpose. This especially applies to skids, sliders etc.

All those extra holes in the frame are great for drainage. The inside of my frame rails get regularly hosed out to make sure mud, salt, sand are fully flushed out.

OP, you’re killin us with the inkblot tests. Context man! Show surroundings or verbally describe where these holes are at. I’ll guess that is the nubby area dead center in skidplate. You can jack up the front end from that point.

Give us a location of the holes. Clearly put there with intent for probably a different trim package as the two small holes are threaded.

So now the question is, if that is indeed the OP's hole location, which seems likely, why would Toyota have put that opening and the holes on each side?

On the other side of the hole is a “block” to bridge the gap between the skidplate and frame crossmember. That block allows this spot (the raised area around the large hole) to be used as a jackpoint to raise the entire front end.

Pretty sure those smaller holes arent threaded. Probably there for reasons of how it’s manufactured.

You're right. I don't know where I got the idea they were threaded...
