What happens when you try to start it?

If it turns over faster than normal but doesn't start, check the timing belt. Not sure if those are interference motors, though.

    Toyota engines are generally non-interference.

But, yeah. Let's not post any details or symptoms so we can help you.

    Help us help you.

I learned about that when the timing belt in my '85 Supra went. Same situation. It just stalled and wouldn't start. Replaced the timing belt and it was good to go.

The 2UZ in my '03 4Runner was an interference motor.

@david mcallister any other details you can add?

I looked it up and the 3.0 for 95 is not interference.

So depending on what happened, it could be literally anything. But the engine shouldn't be seized.

It does turn over faster than normal . I just checked the marks on the timing belt and the harmonic balance is off by 10. I just replaced the timing belt 3 months ago so I know it’s not that. I think the Harmonic Balance is bad. Any other ideas. Thanks for all the replies .

If it's off by 10 spots, sounds like it skipped teeth and you either have a bad pulley, guide or tensioner.

Not familiar with this engine but I wouldn't think it's the harmonic balancer. That's at the end of the crank and not much to go wrong.

I meant when the cams are lined up the crank is 10 degrees before TDC . I didn’t know the pullys went bad .

Are you able to manually turn the motor over to make sure everything is turning?

I had a situation with my Supra where the camshaft seals were bad and it caused the belt to fail again after a short time.

Yes, we just checked using the #1 piston at TDC and the harmonic balancer is off by 10 degrees

On an old Probe GT, a timing belt pulley which was a metal bearing wrapped with plastic had the plastic come off and throw the belt. Sometimes the bearing just wears out. So yeah, they can go bad.

It was not the harmonic balancer as I thought. I doubled checked the timing belt and its lined up. I just looked into the throttle body and it has oil coming out of it. I did a compression check and all of the cylinders except number 3 have no compression. number 3 has 25 . Does anyone know how I could lose compression to all the cylinders at one time? A side note is the truck had a plugged catalytic converter when I bought it. I have no idea how long the drove it like that.

The only thing that makes sense to me is the timing belt being broken again, or the camshaft timing is way off. You confirmed that everything is turning?

I'm stumped, otherwise. It seems like it should be a valve timing issue.
