The things I'd give a left n for. Funny how they make our "old school" 4runners seem like Teslas.

We can thank California and the EPA for our lack of diesel vehicles.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
I would ride the LC70's nuts harder than Jenna Jameson did her entire career.

Somehow, they're bringing brand new LHD Suzuki Jimny's up from Mexico & selling them in the US, with titles! Now, they're doubling MSRP, but hey...we're getting a few here.

Surely, they could bring some LHD versions of these into the US if they can with the Jimny.

A brand new, triple locked modern series 70 in the US? Sheeiiittt...I'd buy one, even at premium.

It's still not legal. JDM sports car enthusiasts have been doing it for years. Even though it's not legal, you can largely get away with it as long as you're not being a total phallus. Getting away with it includes registration and I presume titles. Sometimes there are crackdowns, though.

I want a Nissan Skyline R34 myself. I could get one now, but if I wait a year or so then the oldest ones will have passed the 25 year mark, so I might as well wait. (No, I'm not going to get a GTR. I'm not rich. I'll probably end up with a four door automatic, but I want one!)

Then again, there are a couple states that have been revoking registration even though the vehicles passed the 25 year mark and were imported legally. Getting a vehicle even in this legal way may end up being more trouble than it's worth come the next few years.

I would have to look into it, but I know that you can register and tile Canadian vehicles in the US without any real problem. And I see Mexican cars here in California, but never with California plates, so I don’t know what the legality of THAT is.

The general rule is the vehicle needs to be more than 24 years old. And if it’s a diesel, you can forget about it in California, unless you have connections with the DMV.

In the past people have tried to bypass that by swapping out VIN plates or engines or other trickery, that will still put you in the crosshairs of the feds.

*A quick Internet search says that Mexican vehicles do not meet US emissions and safety standards and therefore you cannot legally register them here.

I will tell you this is something the feds pursue aggressively and if they catch you they will fine you heavily and destroy your car.

It looks like the Jimnys were sold “for off-road use only,” like the ROXOR was; in some states you can use off-road ATVs on road thus bypassing the regulation. They are not technically cars.

I've been drooling over these for several years now. Im sure none or very few of you will agree but if it were possible to import a new one, id get the 1HZ naturally aspirated straight 6 models. That engine is all mechanical. No computer or electrical parts aside from the glow plugs. Yes they do come with power windows and locks on certain models with the 1HZlc70-1.jpg

I think the wagon is probably the most user-friendly configuration, but I would probably get a troopy because you can use that as a work van, the space inside it is ridiculous. Especially with the three seat configuration.
but, yes, the wagon is the most user-friendly version.

I will warn you the ride quality is harsh.

The troopy seems to be the most popular version in Australia for overlanding. With the cavernous interior, they're much better for camping in. But I still prefer the look of the 76 wagon. Check out 4xoverland on YouTube, that guy's got some good stuff to watch.

I think MS is one of the best states for registering imports. You can even get an antique tag.

Thanks, good info. That’s probably the reason they went with the turbo 6 in the Tundra. I’m just curious why American manufacturers feel compelled to still offer diesel trucks.

I’m old enough to remember when diesel fuel cost about half of regular gasoline. I recently asked the question and discovered that they charge more now because they determine price by BTU rather than volume. Apparently diesel has more energy than equal amounts of gasoline. ?

Diesel cost more because they have to refine it more than before due to emissions. Diesel will always out tow a gasoline engine hence why all big rigs are Diesel. With Def, diesel systems are no longer reliable, yeah if you have a 40 foot trailer to tow you have no other option but for daily driving I rather have a toyota gas engine over any modern def Diesel

Agreed new USA diesel engines are a joke. They no longer smoke shake or rattle and you can't even hear them anymore which was my favorite part. And they smell like boiled egg farts from the burned d e f fluid. May as well just get an electric

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic but as a commercial driver I can tell you the new diesels are garbage when it comes to reliability and Def robs the engine of hp and mpg. Basically in a nutshell all the harmful pollutants are stuffed back in the engine. Better for the environment bad for the motor. It's like being forced to eat your own shit and breath in your fart as soon as it exits your asshole while you're running a full sprint

No I'm talking about my old 12 valve. That thing with shake smoke and you could hear it idling from quarter mile away if the wind was blowing in the right direction. I haven't been around the older or newer Japanese diesels but the new American diesels got no balls. They're choked out hippie motors
