water pump questions

I'm looking at water pump kits, and see that there are some water pumps with a spigot off of one side, and some without. It seems mine is without because I can trace both transmission lines from the tranny to the radiator. UNLESS, there is some other hose I can't see. I can see where the water enters the pump at the thermostat housing. No small extra lines that I can see, but cannot see the rest of the water pump.

so I should buy the water pump kit without the side pipe. right?

For the pumps that have the spigot, whatsit for? if somebody knows.

Not sure how you can see that hose. But pretty sure you have it off from the t-stat housing for your oil cooler. Pull off the driver's side rubber flap behind the wheel and you should see your round oil cooler. If you don't have one...you don't need the t-stat spigot.

Make sure you only get an AISIN water pump.

Only use TOYOTA or TOYOTA supplier T-Belts/seals/pump.

 

THANKS SO MUCH. I dropped the skid plates and got my hand up to the thermostat housing. I am just about certain that my pump does not have that outlet. and deduce that I don't have an oil cooler. if there were one, where would its outlet rejoin the circulation system?

Do you have a diagram or drawing or photo of that oil cooler? Once I get to the timing belt and pump stage I think I will pull the bumper and grill off. It might make it easier to find a place for the new transmission oil cooler that will be installed in series with the radiator built-in oil cooler.

thanks very much. there is an oil cooler. I'm glad for it but it looks like i would have to pull the engine to service it. first priority is to clear space in the garage, then chase down the 'miss on cylinder 3' code. going to pull all the plugs and read them, resolve the miss, and go from there. at least it's resolved to get the right model of water pump. thanks again for your help.

 

No. You don't need to pull the engine. You can get to it by removing the driver side wheel and going in the oil filter access flap. It takes some talent, and the CORRECT hose pliers but those hoses can be changed. The bolt and oil cooler can be removed too if it is leaking. Lots of youtube vids and internet writeups.

 

Thanks again. I see that now. On another note I fished for some after market gauges for the truck, and somewhere on the interweb I ran across info on ScanGauge II, which will give me all the info I was after, and fit underneath the radio, among other places. that and the timing belt/pump kit are on the way.

a lot of "STUFF" just to go visit my kids and their kids in the heat of the summer, but it's all leading up to the AC tune-up before I go tripping.
