3" lift no UCA's .... I dont understand ?

    Westcott Designs says with their pre-load lift/spacer, you do not need UCA's to align it back to within spec:

    To me, their lift looks like a spacer/collar added to the bottom vs the usual top spacer. My thinking is, it is just like using a height adjustable shock, but maybe I am missing something. I just do not understand how they can get it aligned after 3" without UCA's.

    Their shop is only 15min from my house so I might stop by and ask what's the deal.

    While not a "traditional" spacer lift (as he says several times in the video) Its still a spacer type lift. But instead of pushing the shock/ spring assembly down, it seems its adding compression to the spring to gain lift. Just like their Bilstein lower perch they make. More than 1 way to skin a cat i guess.. Wonder how it rides?

    As far as not needing UCA's... hmmmm. Geometry is overrated anyway...

    Spacers don't compress the spring. If they did, you wouldn't see any lift. What they do is move the top spring mount further away from the bottom perch, thus raising the vehicle. The only thing that compresses the spring is adding more weight (bumpers/skids/rock rails/winch etc.).

    The other thing spacers do is extend the shock, thus limiting down travel.

    Wescott's using a thicker spring seat, and a top spacer, which still extends the shock.

    Lifts like Bilstein & Eibach (and others) come with longer shocks that accommodate the higher spring perch without over extending the shock.
