Why does my screen seem low-res?

I’m coming from a 2020 Jeep Gladiator and the screen in this 4Runner seems pretty low-res. Is that normal?

 

Yeah, my 2013 has the resolution of a game boy. I know the newer ones are a little better, but they're still way behind the competition.

Keep in mind that when you buy a brand new 4Runner, you're essentially buying a brand new 2010 vehicle.

 

Welcome gunny, does yours have the mtm (front camera)? If so it's a lot worse compared to the models that don't. The resolution on the models that don't are already pretty bad. Not sure why toyota made it even worse for those with the front camera. Makes it almost useless on trails

 

Welcome to toyota and the great entune 3 - designed and delivered in 2020 by a team from 2002. An epitome in slownless, non-intuitivity, borderline idiotic design.....yes, it sucks big time. I recommend you use good, high quality cables for the carplay/auto. And yes, the BT will drop from time to time, the screen will go fully blank once or twice a year or it will get all garbled and you will need to unplug the cables and plug them in again. You will also need to re-pair a phone at least once.
The Gladiator probably comes with the uconnect, which is one of the best in the industry (based on QNX).

 

I have a 2020, and the screens are fine. The rear view camera is a little meh, but it works fine.

I actually thought the head unit screen was surprisingly high res when I first saw it considering how awful people made it out to be. The little screen between the speedo and tach is good, too. I know up to 2019 it was basically a Game Boy Color, but they made it nicer for the 2020. I would have been happy with the Game Boy Color screen, but the 2020 screen is fine. I just hope it lasts long term. The Game Boy Color screen looks like it could be the kind of screen that would be easier to repair.

 

I came from a 2020 Jeep - the screen resolution was insane - but I'll never go back to a jeep again - in under 20k miles we had a rear window leak, steering box replacement, visor failure, driver side door leak, engine replacement (yes that's right) and the driver side door lock/unlock control module failure. I'll take the 20 year old tech over another Stelantis product. I've had my 2011 Tundra CM since new and have only replaced the front struts.

It just seemed odd to me that a new vehicle from Toyota would be lacking in technology. But hey, if they spend their money in reliability over tech, I'll take it.

 

Try putting a screen protector on the screen if you think the touch aspect of it is lacking. It seemed to increase responsiveness for me, but I put it on really early into my 4Runner ownership, so I didn't have a whole lot of experience with the screen before that.

 

What in the hell caused an engine replacement in a 2020?

IDK about his Jeep but my 2020 4Runner is getting an engine as a consequence of either running over a tree, or the mechanic fixing the damage driving it without oil.

Jeeps camera is light years ahead of Toyota there’s no doubt on that. Longevity……. Yeah you’re probably right
