The ultimate overland vehicle lol. It should be the inspiration for all of us! Slow-blow airbags and 8 headlights, all the bells and whistles!

Also, ladies like it better than our macho rigs. As it stands, it seems the best built 4runners mostly attract other middle age guys.:laugh::laugh:

Oh yeah…what about “rig?” I really want to call mine the “rig” but I just cant bring myself to do that lol.

Most of the time I call it the 4Runner but if not a SUV. I have a Tacoma too so that gets the truck destination.

I think it's firmly a truck. People get hung up on beds and well the Ridgeline or Santa Cruz are not trucks. That's why we have the term "pickup trucK' implying that there are other kinds of trucks.

SUV works too and if we go back to the 1980s and 1990s SUV or "Sport Ute" was a term for body-on-frame wagon trucks. Nowadays the term has been so watered down so that any crappy crossover or lifted hatchback is considered an "SUV" to the point where the term has lost all meaning.

For normal people "car" or "SUV" mostly because I don't have the energy for people to say "huh, why are you calling it a truck? it has no bed." Call it a minivan for all I care. In the company of truck people I would always call it a truck.

Golden era of the SUV or "Sport Ute"

It’s about context for me. In the school parking lot it’s a car. On the trail it’s a truck. Rig? I don’t know. I think there have to be some significant offroad improvements for Rig to apply. I mean, you wouldn’t call a stock Limited a Rig. But a Pro qualifies, barely. Full fledged rigs have big tires, roof rack, whip antenna, and minor trail rash.

And since we’re naming names, my (green) ORP was christened “Mr. Toad”.

On the vehicle registration MI SOS classifies it as a Station Wagon.

    I call it 4Runner mostly.

I guess mine qualifies as a rig based on this. Armor, rack, winch, recovery gear, etc...

Whip antennas are going obsolete, though. :D It's all about GMRS and HAM these days.

Throw in some spanglish and I can just as easily call mine a troca. Where Im from we even shorten that to “tro”.

I used to love the big american “troses” when I was a kid. I was probably 20 before I realized nobody besides mountain folks knows what a tro is. Lol

Oddly enough, I just looked it up and besides Cuba and DR, they also use guagua in the Canaries! And their is a place in the Filipines called Guagua. As an aside, Tagalog totally is trippy to me. Every time I hear it, I feel like I should understand it, but I can’t!

LOL.....Ill blow your mind for a moment: My parents are from the DR, learned Tagalog fluently (My wife's Filipina) and Ive been to Guagua before lol :violent:

And yes it is a hard AF language. Funny its 500 times easier for them to learn Spanish than us Tagalog. We have a conjugation structure and they dont

    Interesting question.
    Hmmmm.
    I have a Tundra...a truck.
    I HAD a M-B GLK350 SUV.
I referred to the GLK as a "car".
    I bought a '22 4Runner which I refer to as a "truck" and a "SUB" and a "car".
    Habits...
    Basically saying Tundrua and Runner.
    ...things that make you go...hmmmmmmmmmmm

On the Toyota website the “trucks” are Tacoma and Tundra.
4Runner is in the “Crossovers and SUVs” category.
