Just curious. I refer to mine as a Truck. Maybe because I owned a couple Tacomas before this, and just continue to use the term Truck. I guess SUV would work, but I just couldn't call it a car. What say you?

    Washed my truck today

All 3 actually. If somebody asked what type of vehicle I have, I'll say "SUV". Otherwise "Ess You Vee" is cumbersome to say.

I'll say "I left my sunglasses in the truck", or "we can take my car".

Some people think it's automatically a "truck" because it's body on frame, but by that logic, almost every domestic passenger car built before 1980 is a "truck".

Since I still have a Tacoma also, they are both trucks to me.

Truck. Cause it drives like a truck. And when I think 'car' I picture a sedan or coupe. Plus SUV is two too many syllables.

+1 to all of this. SUV just doesn't roll off the tongue, and it's not a car.

    And, mine has truck plates.

I’m like this but we, my family, also refer to our vehicles by their given name. So my kids will say “how’s the gas in Bear Claw?” Or “Chuck needs a bath”

Not enough bro points to be a truck or SUV?

This reminds me of when my buddy got his Saleen Mustang years ago that he called Roxanne. His wife was on the phone with her friend and said yep Mike is cheating on me and I caught him in the act. The friend gasped what cheating really Mike is? The wife responded yes her name is Roxanne and when he gives it to her she really screams.

The government defines a truck as...

"A truck is a motor vehicle designed primarily for the transportation of property or special purpose equipment."

    So, I guess an F150/Silverado/Tundra/Tacoma/Ranger/Ram/Colorado/Titan/Frontier isn't actually a truck either. :D

I consider it an SUV. We have a Tundra and its a TRUCK even though the Runner rides like a dam truck I still consider it an SUV. I was actually at a park event for work last summer and where I parked the Runner they needed vehicles moved. Kept hunting for the person needing to move their truck. Finally one of my coworkers came up and said hey can you move your truck. Well to some I guess truck

Truck, when I remember to. But sometimes I slip and say car, or SUV. Then I stand in the corner for an hour until I feel my sin has been expiated.

I think the fairest definition of a 'truck' is a vehicle designed for both extra utility and extra abuse. A vehicle becomes a truck when it can do more than a standard passenger vehicle -- and is built to withstand heavy duty applications.

It's the BOF construction, solid rear axle, suspension design and unsophisticated-but-bulletproof engine and transmission that make the 4R capable of truck levels of abuse. When I said before that I call the 4R a truck because it drives like a truck -- well, these are the reasons it drives like a truck.

Now, add in the large cargo capacity, excellent 4WD system, and decent GVWR and tow ratings, and you have something with much more utility and ruggedness than a standard vehicle. The reason we all call pickups 'trucks' is exactly the same. Their beds give them a level of utility you can't find in regular passenger vehicles, and because of the amount of weight you can dump into those beds the platform is typically designed to take a lot of abuse.

Consider something like a Subaru Outback as a counterpoint. It has extra utility due to its largish cargo hold and its AWD system. But it's not a truck because it's not built to withstand heavy loads, to tow much, or to pound over rock gardens. It's CVT alone disqualifies it from the category of vehicles designed to take abuse.

QED, the 4R is a truck.

SUV, I consider a truck as having a bed to haul stuff in.

Funny enough in Michigan they title it as station wagon. They did the same with my Explorer as well.

In Spanish I call it “la guagua.” Pretty much means “wagon” in my Spanish.

In English it’s a bit harder… “vehicle” I guess. I’d call it “the toyota” but we have a highlander too, so that doesnt help.

Maybe 4runner rolls off the toungue the best though.
