Thanks, I’ll try to check them out today. I read that there are certain things I need to look for, don’t remember the exact info or where I saw it.

If you do decide to get a new rack, I might be interested in your black rails.

Actually, Maine sales tax on $33k is $1,815. That's a hefty savings. While it doesn't feel right/good getting low-balled on a trade, but considering the jacked up market value I'd be happy with that savings and not having to deal with the hassle of a private sale, like you mentioned.

I was offered 31k to sell to a dealership, but refused because I expected to be starting at 29k (which is what they said) for my trade, which put me close with the tax savings, no matter what way I went. When I showed up, my trade went down to 27k and then they started knocking down the value, accident minus 1500, needs tires, another grand. So I started fighting back. If I didn’t have my wife (she really likes the color) and hates the stress of negotiating, I would have walked. But they wouldn’t care, as it would sell anyways. In the end, it wasn’t bad enough for me to walk, this just put a sour spin on the deal.

In the end, it’s all good, I learned my lesson, hopefully I won’t buy again for a long time.

I like the look, but don’t see them as functional enough for me.

Yeah. If you’re looking at roof top tents and what not I get it. I would just need to carry a few 50-65L backpacks, a tent and maybe a cooler or two. Pro rack would probably work.

Went for a drive yesterday. Did about 500 miles, ended up on the West side of Moosehead, I must say at 6 foot 3, sleeping in the runner is not all that fun. Did get some off roading in. Never shifted out is 2HI, super impressed with the capabilities straight out of the box. I didn’t want to push it, being a solo vehicle on stock and the mud and rocks where increasing in size.

we did get one photo on the journey

Had the underside sprayed in PB Surface Shield today, so pictures from the underbelly, I’ve had the runner for 2 weeks now.

Actually, I think we slept across the road from there the other night. Free spot right next to the upper Kennebec.

Pulled from another thread, so I can create a conversation about communications for a moment and not clog up that thread

what would you suggest to put in for communications? CB type. I’m not currently ham licensed but have considered it in the past.

Everyone in the Wisconsin crew is moving to GMRS.

I don't know a lot about it, because I'm actually one of the last ones still running CB. I'll be on GMRS in a month or so, though.

From what I have seen- tiny antenna, better range, better clarity, and the ability to split channels to filter out noise from others running the same channel.

It requires a license to transmit, but it's supposed to be a simple process. The license covers you and your immediate family for 10 years. I believe it costs $35-ish.

I believe @McSpazatron has a GMRS setup now, and got his license, or us in the process. He might have something to add here as well.

Yup, just installed a midland GMRS. Applied for a license too. I already have an old CB installed, but it's been giving me fits lately. Hoping the gmrs is a little more reliable setup, but that might depend on my install more than anything.

That said, all things equal, gmrs has way better range than CB. And the unit I got was small enough to do a hidden install.

I sent these photos to my salesperson, guess what, its normal because its untreated metal. Well no shit, untreated metal will rust, but why is it acceptable to have a vehicle with rust in less than 2 weeks of ownership? Why does toyota not do something to treat the metal? Is it worth a message to Yota Corp?

You’re not going to get any feedback if you do.

you’re also in New England, so expect your Toyota to rust to shit faster than in other parts of the country.

Untreated steel + H20 = rust. Even in sunny mostly dry CA I had that on a new 4Runner. I cleaned those areas up with solvent and sprayed them with rust reformer or flat black paint. Problem solved.

My service advisor asked me what I was doing to take care of my tacoma frame so well, it was suggested I stop so that one day they could replace my frame. I plan to try hard to keep the rust away.

Thanks folks. These picts were taken while getting sprayed with PB Surface Shield, it was just disappointing to find this on a vehicle that probably is 3 to 4 months old. It was only at the dealership for maybe 5 days.

    But we all know

Ya, I thought about that, living a town away from the ocean, I understand. I really don't want anything, just annoying that its not protected.
