Dealer F*ckin with me!?!?

I get a call this morning from my dealer here in Chicago that I have been waiting on the car with for 3 months and the New Car Manager tells me my car is due in Feb 9th. No big deal right? Well heres the back story. I am trading in my 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO that my whole deal is tied into. Paying sticker for the 4runner and getting 46,500 for my Tundra TRD PRO. $500 less than I paid and I put 7,000 miles on it.

Back when I put my deposit down on the 4runner they were concerned about the value of my truck and what the rumored 2018 changes would do to the market. As it was just released the new 2018 Tundra will be released Feb 9th in the morning that even dealers will be seeing for the first time.

I know this could simply be a coincidence however the biggest fear of the dealer was the value on the 17's due to the 18's. My car has been at port since the 18th and I know could take a long time to get here however seems very long! The other issue is my car was listed on their website for 5K more (since been removed) and they have been very brief with me via email.

Could you imagine the shit storm if this shit turns out to be exactly the case!?

Anyone have any similar issues with dealers screwing customers over after waiting with a deposit on a vehicle coming in??

 

You've put down a deposit on a new 4Runner but did you have a signed agreement for them to purchase your 17' Tundra for $46,500?

 

I have emails locking in the price of sticker of 43,XXX and trade in of 46,500. I have bought 15 cars this way. 20 Phone calls and 20 emails negotiating everything.

 

I'm sure e-mails will help, print them out and hold on to them, but I have little faith in anyone and their word these days. Until a deal is done its subject to change. I hope your deal goes as planned and definitely don't want to put the root on you but without a signed agreement in hand I would be nervous.

 

Yeah sorry Cohiba but I'm with Redtide on this. Even my dealer was apprehensive to say the car was mine even with the vin numbers and emails till we had it pre-contracted. They also couldn't give me the trade in number that far in advance. I'm always over worried. But if your dealership has always done this with you I wouldn't worry.

 

Sounds like you have a nice truck. Why not try selling it yourself while you're waiting? If it sells, then great. If not, then hope the dealer honors the original trade-in value.
