Connecting BOTH antennas to an aftermarket headunit **pictures**

So when I installed my aftermarket radio, I noticed a loss of AM signal on my radio. YES, I listen to AM radio. So shut it!

After doing some research, it came to find out that the 4runner has TWO antennas. One for FM, and a booster for AM that runs towards the back.

Other's say that the booster in the back is for FM also. Regardless, I wanted to use that "booster" antenna to improve my AM reception.

Since the aftermarket headunit only had connection for ONE antenna, I had to find some sort of adapter to go from two antennas, two one antenna.

After doing some research I found a Y adapter, and an scosche adapter for the smaller antenna plug:

I took my headunit out. I am not going to go thru those steps since I already discussed it here:

Once I pulled out the headunit, I dug around for the two antenna cables:



The smaller one is for the rear antenna. The larger one is for the regular whip antenna that I was using to plug behind the headunit. The smaller antenna uses the scosche adapter before plugging it into the Y adapter.



I then plugged the Y adapter into the back of the headunit.



Voila! AM reception is now improved!

 

I installed the double din from Amazon didn’t any am radio reception. After I saw your post I found the item male antenna cable but I can’t find the adapter tip . Which tip I can use it because I click on it it said doesn’t fit the 4Runner. Can u tell me the adaptor tip you have ordered

 

If it makes you feel any better I need to listen to AM for football games on my way home from work.

because of the damn time difference radio is all I got.
