New 2000 auto 2wd 4cyld 4 runner owner what should I do first?

    Aloha!

    Ive recently purchased a 2000 4runner automatic 2wd 4 cyclinder with 241k miles on it as both my project car but also my day to day... I ~think~ most of the project portion will be cosmetic, she's got some uglies. Anyway, here's the short:

    I'm the 3rd owner and I have no paperwork, everything looks stock except the rack and pinion were replaced + the alignment and bushings were all done professionally (per the 2nd owners say so). She runs smooth and sounds great BUT I would like to make sure she's road ready and I don't do any damage with day to day use. So heres my to-do list, please let me know if theres anything i should add to (or take off) it and how important or immediately I should be doing it :)

    Flush & Fill ATF
    Change Oil
    Bleed & Replace Brake Fluid
    Flush & Fill Coolant
    do I need to do anything with the power steering fluid?

    ok thats all I have, please please let me know if theres anything I should do ASAP and what can wait as I can afford and make the time for it :)

    When you drain and fill your ATF, you could get a little more thorough by pulling the pan. Make sure you buy new FIPG from Toyota and have something handy to scrap up the old stuff off the mating surfaces. Plastic putty knife and some brake cleaner comes in handy here.

    If your radiator is old (or original) I'd look into replacing that as well when you do your coolant. Make sure she's good for the summer months to come by also doing the thermostat and maybe even the fan clutch. Easy stuff to do.

    If you decide to drain/fill your power steering fluid, keep in mind that your system actually uses ATF; Dex III. There's a method you do so by emptying the reservoir, then running the return line out to catch the old stuff while dumping new fluid in the reservoir until it comes out nice and clean.

    The rest of your fluids are pretty self-explanatory.

    Let's not forget your suspension components. A lot of old rubber will need replacing.

    Front upper and lower ball joints; only use OEM for the lowers.

    Upper and lower control arm bushings.

    Sway bar end links.

    You mentioned the steering rack was done but take a glance at the two bushings holding it in place.

    Fuel filter.

    Spark plugs.

    Just what I can come up with off the top of my head...

    I'm very familiar with that engine since my 4runner has it. If you don't have any record of it being done in the last 60k miles, get your valves adjusted! I did mine, and every valve was either out of adjustment or barely within spec. I had to adjust 12 of the 16 valves.

    If you don't do this, it can cause burnt valves, often fixing this costs about as much as what the vehicle is worth. I was quoted 1k to do the job by Toyota (the MAX price), I did it at home but it's not something you'll want to do if its the only vehicle you have access to. These engines have no other common problems.
