Thanks for the shout. Have a 99 4WD 4Runner SR5 with 5VZ-FE and auto trans. Sorry don't have any photos yet, but will have when I get maintenance started. I put over 300,000 on a Chevy Uplander, and now it's waiting for me to get around to some fix-its.

Bought T4R with a random miss, which seller had a code for, but apparently the codes aren't super accurate. before I start moving parts I'm buying parts. will get full set of injectors, and plugs and coils and fuel filter and "stuff". Prepping for a family re-union in Texas, with hopefully some side trips on unpaved roads. :) I am looking for part numbers of stuff I shouldn't leave home without.

I would like a recommendation for a scanner that will do the codes and info without costing more than the truck, and without the stupid problems the cheapo-ones have. And a decent torque wrench that also costs less than the trade-in value of my van. Also I wonder what an "igniter" is. I see them discussed, and for sale, but still don't know what it's for. Maybe for prepping the sushi on the air plenum?

Been in Minnesota long? I've been through some beautiful country on road trips.

Inova Tech Scan II is a decent code scanner. You can look it up on the internet to check it out. They run around $250 or so. I just got one as a gift for Christmas and haven’t used it yet. Nothing I have is broken. Knock on wood. Go on Amazon or eBay and look for a click-stop torque wrench. Those are the easiest to use. I’ve been in Minnesota most of my life with a few short breaks during my time in the Army and Marines.

thanks everyone for the welcomes. I appreciate it. I'm making lists of parts so I can resolve the intermittent miss code. I was disappointed when I missed an FJ project recently, which I like because it reminds me of Dad's FJ-40-ish that I got to drive in Arizona when I was learning how. That was a horse, or a steer perhaps. 0 amenities. Zero. None. But man, that thing could climb! Then I found the 4runner and I like it a lot. Hopefully a road tripper like my Chevy van has been, but with better ground clearance so I can get over the stuff that stopped the van.

Thanks and all best for all Y'all

I could use some free advice. i'm thinking about logging my maintenance and trouble-shooting somewhere on the forum and am confused by the posting on the profiles and on builds and stuff like that. i'd be mainly talking to myself i guess, with self deprecating humor should anything funny happen. should i start a thread about my Toy on my profile? or in third generation zone? more confusing than the maze of pipes and hoses and big plastic things under the hood . :)

    thanks in advance
