How long does it typically take once the vehicle reaches port to get to the dealer?

I have an estimated arrival date at port of 3/17 and my dealer is in Virginia.

Ordered a Limited in Army Green on 2/19, heard from my dealer on 2/28 with a VIN. On 3/2 I heard it had a vessel arrival date of 3/17. I guess their allocation had my exact build.

If anyone is looking I was just notified of a white ORP that is still unspoken for at a dealership in Indianapolis. They are selling at MSRP. Due to arrive early April.

Does it have kdss? I’m hunting for an off road premium with kdss and hopefully the slide out cargo tray.

Had mine for about a month now but figured I'd add my story to the list.

2022 ORP, white, KDSS, slicktop - about 5 weeks between placing the deposit and taking delivery. KDSS was a must-have, and silver/grey/black were deal breakers. Strongly preferred no moonroof but would take it if I had to.

Test drove a 4runner for the first time end of December, a used 2021 SR5. Walked through all the different trims & typical lead times with the sales rep. Decided the ORP w/ KDSS was the right one for me and asked them to give me a call when they had one I could drive, which they did about a week later. Showed up that day ready to order my perfect truck, only to get schooled on Toyota's allocation process (RIP my lunar rock dreams), but "luckily" they had a couple on the way that were close to what I wanted - red with a moonroof, or white without it, but with a bunch of port-added extras (blackout emblems, side steps, all weather mats, some bs usb cable kit). Went with the white since I actually wanted some of the extras, and really didn't want that moonroof!

Overall very happy with the truck, and happy to be driving it so soon without really compromising on my wishlist or having to call every dealer in the country.

Picked up at Heyward Allen Toyota in Athens, Ga - 3/16/22
Started calling about 10 dealers within 200 miles on 2/9. Put first deposit down on 2/23, but that dealer didn't deliver, so went with Heyward on 3/4/22. The configured it at port, before it was being worked on, exactly how I wanted it - removing stuff (skid plate, XP package, safe) and adding below. More details in a prior post of mine.

    MSRP from Toyota: $41,435
    Keep it wild savings: -$500
    Delivery fee: $1215
    Pred Bars: $719
Hood, mirror, door paint pro: $618
    Toyoguard Prem: $699
    Black overlays: $229
    LED interior Lights: $209
Phone cables / USB ports: $209
    Cargo mat: $199
All weather floor mats: free thrown after price agreement.
Cargo cross bars: Permitted to keep off trade

    TOTAL MSRP: $45,032
Dealer add: $899 *see below for details
Trade: $36450 *see below for details

    Admin Fee: $599
    Reg Fee: $79
Ga TAVT tax: $670.50 (assessed on difference between trade and new)
    State Reg Fee: $18
    State Warranty Rights fee: $$3

OTD Price all in - $10,850.49
I got financing at PenFed for 1.9% for 60 months

*Dealer added protection features: $899 - could not remove. Included window tint on front 2 windows, pulse brake light with some type of $3K insurance that if I am rear ended and it totals the 4runner, I get 3K off a replacement. Also value shield insurance, but its only good for one year. Protects against diminished value during a trade if there was an accident.... so basically $899 for tint and a flashing brake light.
I got them to allow me to keep the luggage rack cross bars from my trade and throw in all weather toyota mats - so it helped a little with the $899 sting.

*$36,450 trade on my 19' SR% (title in hand) with 26K miles. $450 higher vs next dealer, who was cheaper MSRP, but with the increased trade, plus floor mats and cross bars was a near wash in OTD

“Ordered” a TRD ORP on 11/1. Dealer (Cobb County Toyota, GA) was allocated a silver one this week, and I had first dibs. WAY more port-installed options than I wanted, but that’s what the port is doing nowadays. Just wanted a moonroof, but waiting would have ended me up at the same place port-option-wise so I pulled the trigger. These things aren’t cheap or easy to get...Should arrive at dealer on 4/11, so a turn of just over five months. Pix when it arrives!

Nice, what port options does it have? The only option that I couldn’t accept was the black wheel package. Charging $1300 for the TRD Pro wheels is high way robbery! Some of the dealers will let you adjust those by the way. Congrats!

When the dealer has allocations I remember that impacts so many of each trim level (ORP vs. Pro etc) but do they only get so many of each color as well?

If you're 10th in line, you're probably out of luck. Is the dealership telling you they'll be able to get 10 white TRD PROs between now and then end of the model year?

Thanks! Here are two pictures of the build sheet. I hope they upload. The touch keypad should be handy. Center console safe? Not sure. It can keep my sunscreen and broken CD cases secure. Running boards? Maybe I won’t really hit trails that would break them. We’ll see… The other stuff is just what I have to accept if I want the truck. Excited anyway! Just a little less in savings.

With our dealer it seems so random. What I discovered is that we don’t really “order” a 4Runner; we just place our names on a priority list and hope something matching our desires gets allocated.

This is correct, you don’t get to order a vehicle with your options. Instead Toyota allocates certain colors and trims to dealers and they try to match those allocations to those that put down a deposit.

I'm not sure those options are port installed, they look like dealer options. Like 6 gallons of gas?? The factory window sticker indicates a full tank.

I doubt my 22 Limited even had 6 gallons of gas in it when I test drove it...They gladly ran to the gas station & filled it up during the transaction.

It’s still at the port, per dealer. I’m actually on a business trip in California and I am 30 minutes away from the port where it sits. But I have to wait two weeks for it to make it to Atlanta. Aargh.

I put a deposit down back in Oct '21 and my dealer just gave me a VIN at the end of February and told me it was 2-3 weeks away. My 4R still hasn't come in yet. If I received a VIN, does that mean the 4R already left Japan? Or does the VIN get assigned once the truck is getting assembled. Just trying to figure where its at.

Gotcha I got lucky with mine. They told me should not be an issue for prior month for silver ORP. Maybe they knew ahead of time. So I left deposit and two weeks later it was confirmed.

i could see so many of each trim but limiting color seems silly

It's how they look at streamlining their assembly process. Trim and paint color are both a factor - if you could change color on the one you've ordered and it's the thirteenth out of 60 they plan to build, they wouldn't pull it out of the line, they'd have to set up another run with that particular paint color.

From a business/manufacturing perspective their approach totally makes sense because a true custom order approach is tough to manage and far less efficient (meaning less 4runners available for those of us still waiting for an allocation). Unfortunately it's not as customer-friendly though, particularly if you're looking for a less common color/option/trim combo.

Very interesting. I called at least ten dealers in 2021 to get a silver ORP and two responded. This was before things were as bad as they are now. Luckily I bought below MSRP and not super far away.

You might think it's 30 minutes away but if you're talking about SoCal traffic, it's probably more like 2 hours. Glad I escaped from there. :)

I was in the market for about three weeks, quickly whittled down the MSRP dealers after a week. Had two sell right under my nose because I hesitated due to too many port installed options. Found one using TrueCar (third try), they had what I wanted and I bought it the morning after it arrived at the dealer. Paid about $1k over MSRP, but wifey got exactly what she wanted and we skipped the wait.

Very nice! How do you like the predator bars? Can’t decide between those and possibly the OEM running boards. I need something as a 5’6" older fat guy :)

February 28th started reaching out to dealers in CO (except on west slope). Put our "preferences" in with any that would accept without a deposit. Still told the ones that require a deposit what we wanted, in case they had one come in.
March 9th started reaching out to surrounding states, as one dealer looked like it had some available. Secured one of their allocated vehicles set to arrive mid to end of April.
March 22nd got a call from Stevinson West in Denver that our exact preferred build was available - it was in the rail yard across town and was ours if we wanted it. They held it 3 days for us to pick it up.
Paid MSRP + $599 dealer fee.

stevinson still has three Limiteds available as of 6p last night:
(Magnetic grey metallic - redwood -wilderness package - auto runningboards - 3rd row)
    (Blizzard Pearl - graphite - wilderness - 3rd row)
(blizzard pearl - redwood - wilderness - auto running boards - roof rackcrossbars)

Ask for John LaRocca - he's amazing!!!!!

From my experience (similar timeline) getting a VIN means the dealer has received the allocation, i.e., that exact vehicle will exist and will be shipped to that dealer. I think it also means factory options like KDSS are locked at that point.

    Next steps:
    * vehicle gets assembled in factory - two weeks for me
    * vehicle rolls onto boat (dealerCategory updates to 'A' in the API) - about two more weeks
    * vehicle rolls off boat (dealerCategory updates to 'F' in the API) - yep, two more weeks
    * vehicle arrives to dealership (dealerCategory updates to 'G' in the API) - what do you know, ETA is ... two weeks (should be this coming week!)
    * you drive it home

There's a little discrepancy between what I've seen from others ('F' means it's on a train) vs. what I observed ('F' means the vessel arrived), but that might be because I'm so close to the port (CT to NJ) that it never goes onto a train? Just guessing on this one.

I can give you my timeline. I have been working with a Seattle Dealer since February. I had two matching opportunities with no luck.
Dealer told me 3/17 would be the third match day for me.
3/20 was told that I got a match and VIN and apparently the truck was already on a ship to US.
3/24 was told vehicle arriving at port. Also it takes 3 days to 3 weeks to arrive at dealer.
4/8 was projected day to arrive.

I am anxious to wait now. I am getting a gray ORP with KDSS.

Thanks to everyone for posting their status, very helpful to those of us still waiting.

I got some good news today! (Re: Silver ORP w/ KDSS)
    - 3/28 - I received an email from the dealership this morning: "We did lock into your 4runner. It will arrive here around mid May. When it goes into transit, I'll give you another update."

    Some history:
    - 3/15 - I put a deposit down. They made me pick 3 colors but said they think they could get silver (I also chose white and gray as backups). Worth noting: I was told with this dealership I will most likely have to finance through Toyota, they aren't accepting outside lenders unless they absolutely have to (whatever that means).
    - pre 3/15 - months of searching for ORP with KDSS with no luck and hearing other smaller dealerships charging $4k over MSRP (no thanks). I finally found a dealership that recently sold an ORP w/ KDSS so I figured that would be a good place to put a deposit down.
