Hey all, just few opinions wanted. Just ordered my pro grill from 4runner lifestyle - silver TOYOTA letters. I have a LR 2022 Off-road, blacked out emblems from the dealer. It looks good overall, but I really don't like the black on black look on the back of it, where the lettering is on the backdoor garnish. Its like a large black blob of nothing. Seriously considering pulling off the black overlays and painting to match the color of the Toyota letters on the pro grill. Like this:

    https://trail4runner.com/2019/03/13/change-emblems-to-custom-color-4runner/

The side decals are also black...will this look OK with the front and rear silver or stand out? Considering a few options:
    - Do back only to match new front leaving sides alone
    - Do sides and back to match front
    - Do all (including new letters on the front) a darker shade of grey vs the silver it comes in... essentially "blacked" out, but with a little more contrast.

FYI - Valances will be painted black as well.

    Thanks All!

I did mine to match the Gun Metal color of my wheels.... And to delete the chrome... Not hard. Just find a color you want, and make sure its the one after you spray something. Took me 5 cans before the match was dang near perfect.

To each their own, as i prefer everything decal, blacked the effff out. Blacked out, or removed. Just what i prefer. That said, i do NOT like the pro grill. I dont like any of the wording on the front valance. To each their own.

^^^^ Nice. I dont care for the wording on the top front valance at all. Not for me.

I also did my front lower valance and rear,.... i used raptor liner. I love how it turned out. Going on 3 plus years now.

Just my opinion, but I prefer the chrome on my white truck. But there are certain colors that look good with black out lettering, such as the red and silver runners.

Thanks so far. Your right it’s very subjective. I should have started the thread as “show me your emblems / valances!” I do like it blacked out; but maybe I just hate chrome :). Taco vinyl has the pro grill with lunar rock letters to match the body… had me considering it all day for sure. At this point I’m considering a dark grey… maybe not as dark as MGM, but enough to see it’s not black … if that makes sense. I tried to use ms paint and change the letter colors on a pro lunar but it’s very time consuming and doesn’t really give a good representation. Also considering the dark grey trd wheels over the black ones. I feel like the greys will go well with the greenish grey lunar rock… just hard to find pics in that configuration.

I agree..not a fan of the all black garnish and black letters. I like the black letters but wanted some contrast so I painted the rear garnish the same as the body then did the black letters..similar to how the SR5s come.

I have a white 4Runner. I too dislike the blackout kits on a white runner. I went with plastidip's Anthracite Grey:

I went the extra mile to paint mine, got color matched calvary blue in a can, went to the dealer to test the match before I popped the $30 can of 2K clear coat, and most of all had fun doing the project. Taping the SR5 logos were a bitch, but I'm happy with how they turned out in the end.

I'm all about contrast. I don't love the black on black on the Pro's or chrome on chrome the Ltd's have. I love the chrome against black on my ORP. I don't have the wheels I want........gotta convince the hubby that I "need" them....lol. Love the customizations a bunch of y'all have made. Boy, am I a novice and have much to learn!

this. I started looking online and everything was people wanting to black out that garnish! I am ok with the black garnish so long as the emblems and words are not also black. Seriously considering dark grey / gun metal on the emblems like one user showed

that color is right down my lane! I think it looks good with lighter colors like white and grey. Did you do the rear and side ones in the same color?

Yes. I did the rear emblem and letters but I removed the side SR5 badges all together.

The Anthracite grey from Plastidip is a really nice color. The gunmetal from them was a little too lightly colored and flat for my preference.

Thanks I know this - really looking for opinions and pics before I pull the trigger. I did mess with the overlays yesterday to see how stuck they were... very stuck! I will try a hair dryer if I do this, but might have to destructively remove and buy new... which i dont really like the smell of.

I'm in the exact same situation. I like Trail4Runner websites idea on making the tailgate lettering and emblem silver to match the front pro grill, and leave the side TRD-Offroad badges black. I think that given they are on the sides and likely not visible at the same time as the front or back emblems it would look okay.

I'm also thinking over the idea of buying Lunar Rock 6X3 touch-up paint in a spray can and painting the tailgate emblem and "4Runner" lettering in LR. I've found a few options for shaker cans of Lunar Rock 6X3 paint but its somewhat pricey and I'm concerned of the quality of the color-match.

Here are a few options I saw and I could not find anyone on the forum with experience with either company.

    https://theautopaintdepot.com/autom...6x3-touch-up-paint-for-toyota-rav4-all-years/
    https://touchupdirect.com/touch-up-paint/toyota/4runner/

I think I am leaning towards the easier option of going with a silver rattlecan to match the front TRD Pro grill letters. Always can paint it again if we hate it! Good Luck!

I thought hard about doing the front letting in LR, but think the silver will be a nice contrast. Ill be installing the pro grill with silver lettering this coming weekend - pending delivery of course. Ill post some pics afterwards. I am torn at this point on the rear - Like you, either match the front silver OR paint the rear garnish LR to match the body like
spyder918 said and stick with black lettering on the sides and back. I hate to say it, but I am leaning #2.
If I do paint it, I will be using the touchup direct link you sent... or buy a matching garish but I bet that is crazy expensive from Toyota.

Also will paint the rear and front valance - most likely next weekend as well.

Using this pic as my model:

I just picked up my black overlays yesterday. I also have a lunar rock. I guess it just depends on one individuals taste.

There is also this that I have used (I did Black "TOYOTA" on my Pro Grille, then put these - in Red - on top of that)... And YES I KNOW that the second "T" is a tad crooked. I've fixed it since I noticed it in these pics. LoL.

The beauty of all the options out there is that there is a color scheme that works for any of us, even when we do all have different preferences. Make it yours, make it unique!

I initially went with one of these from @Andres:

    On my truck:

Then decided to have him produce an anodized Toyota 'T' instead, to replace the oem chrome version. It came in like this:

But I thought it was too dark, and painted it a metallic silver instead:

I still have the stylized T from the first attempt. I may change it up now and then. I modified my upper grille where I don't have to take it off to change the emblem. I can remove the emblem from behind any ol' time.
