I have 95 4runner 4x4 already gets pretty bad gas mileage. I had a 4in rough country lift and 33s put on has really bad gas mileage now. Anyone has any solutions or tips to get a bit better mileage. It has front locking hubs that always stay on free unless I'm out 4x4, also only drive 60 on the highway, and I have a rtunes cold air intake on it. Is there anything I can do to help it or is it just deal with it type of issue.

Getting rid of your lift and 33's would help but that's it. These vehicles are only rated 11 city, 15 highway. The best I have ever got was 19 mpg and that was with 30X9.50's and when it was less than 10 years old.

Drive slower. They're aerodynamically challenged. :D

It's true. My 5th gen has gotten up to 20 MPG lifted. It's also gotten 12. Your cruising speed is a huge part of your fuel economy.

gas mileage for that era..was ok...and my '97 is slightly a tad better...if i watch my speed on the interstate ..the mileage does increase...but they are gas hogs....lol

My buddy’s V8 ram gets better gas mileage than I do in my 5th gen. They really do get bad gas mileage. I’m averaging what I did in my supercharged cobra.

Complete suspension rebuild by Total Auto Pro's, Glass Out Repaint including 4 new doors, New Rear Bumper, OEM Color and Graphics, 2019 4Runner 17" Rims & Tires, Most Engine components replaced including PS Pump & Lines, Starter, Radiator, Head Gaskets, Plugs, Wires, etc.
How about changing the gears in the pumpkins? Would that change it enough to get better MPG? I have a 1993 and its great at 60 MPH or less but push it past that and it drops MPG like a rock! Plus, at 80 MPH I'm pushing 4K RPM's as well!

Oh, yeah, a gear change in the differentials will help any car's mileage. But it might feel really slow to get going.

It will require a speedo gear change if the speedo is getting its reading off the transmission...

Sustained 80MPH is really way more speed than these rigs were designed for. So yeah, every tick above 55/60mph, MPG is going to sink like a rock. At that speed you're pushing a non-aerodynamic vehicle at speeds where aerodynamics really start to become important.
