I'm hopefully getting some new rims soon. Any wheel lock recommendations? Do many still use locks on their rims or more of an annoyance?

Mine were put on at the dealer by request of the person that ordered the truck, but then backed out of the deal, which allowed me to secure it in 2 days.
The didn't charge me for them, but also didn't remove them. They have kind of been an annoyance I suppose. Do people steal wheels and tires anymore?

If you have very expensive wheels and has a risk of stealing like outside parking or bad public parking spots may be good to have wheel locks.

My TRD Pro has wheel locks and i'm scared if there would be a chance of screwing the face of the wheel lock if I had to change tires on a trail with mud / dirt on them.

Also if I loose that small thing I'm not sure how much of trouble it would be to get a new key thing.

Haha yeah exactly. I remember back in the 90s this was a big thing but do people still do that? I don't mind installing them but not crazy about how ugly they can look too.

Yeah good point also. I'm afraid of losing that little key as well.

Figured I'd chime in with my experience.

As far as wheel thefts, here in the NYC area, wheel thefts are an occasional occurrence. I have seen primarily Honda Accords sitting on blocks but I'm sure the thieves go for whatever is easiest to sell. Our AT/MT tires may also be enticing but then again they are quite a bit heavier than a sedan's wheels and tires. There are probably other urban areas that see similar thefts and we probably don't hear about them all.

For wheel locks, Toyota uses McGard locks for their factory locks. One of the vehicles we purchased was missing the key and we called McGard directly for the key replacement. They were very helpful and mailed me a key.

Most wheel manufacturers sell lug nuts that require a common, but specific socket that have a unique pattern to them. I would guess most thieves don’t carry those specific sockets.
