We're looking for our 4runner now. I'd like a TRD OR premium with out the sunroof. I can't seem to find that in dealer stock. I can keep searching, but is it ultimately futile? Will we have to order that if we want that?
On that note- how long does delivery of special order vehicle take? Are you stuck w/ MSRP if you special order?

Its optional but you are probably finding only ones on the lot with a sunroof due to location. Probably need to go out of state.

Not sure how long special order takes never needed to for a Toyota but you are not stuck with MSRP its still how much you and the dealer haggle for.

I’m not sure if you can get the “premium” without sunroof.

    I dont want kdss either.
What is kdss exactly? Good? Bad?

Mine is a premium without a sunroof

It was the opposite for me. Hard to find and OR with a sunroof

I replied to your other thread. For me, that was the non negotiable item. It had to have KDSS or no deal. I had a 2010 4Runner trail that had KDSS and I much preferred the handling characteristics of it over the other models.

They had a silver one in elmhurst last night. My wife wants 3rd row seats. We only have one kid :( How comfortable is the 3rd row seating? Who can fit back there (kids/adults) ? Does anyone miss the 4" lost in the rear cargo area?
What about the 2nd row folding seats? I know theyre different... are they better or worse?
Obviously I'm already having second thoughts... its alot of money...

There is no room in the 3rd Row. My SIL has the 3rd row and I am not a fan. No it’s not comfortable at all and it’s tough to get into when car seats are in the 2nd row. Yes children and a small adult can fit in there but I would not do either if it’s over a 1/2 hour half trip. You lose a lot my than 4 inches. My concern is space because I have to children and we travel a lot. IMHO 3rd seats are only good for short tripping unless you buy a full-size SUV, not a 4Runner or equivalent.

She bought the SR5 premium in Blue with 3rd row seats. Her car so no argument here ;)

We went up to Garber Toyota in Fox Lake. John Paladino took good care of us. Paid just about 4k under msrp. He even offered to take my wife out 4 wheelin when she comes for her first service.

Since 4runners are still only made in Japan, custom orders usually take at least six weeks or more because of shipping time. Go to your local dealership and tell them exactly what you want. Toyota has a search that allows them to see if the vehicle your after has already been produced and it’s location and availability. I had to order a custom for my mother-in-law, it was a two month wait to get it delivered. Also remember when you do a custom order you may have to pay top $$. Dealerships usually base their discount off MSRP on how long a vehicle has been sitting on their lot.

When I was searching for my truck I did not come across any TRD Off Road Premium trim without the sunroof, although it is an option. I wanted a sunroof though, I enjoy that on nice days.

Why do you want one without?

If you live in a state where you get hail (like here in CO) you will be absolutely terrified if you were caught in a hail storm.

I wanted ORP without KDSS and sunroof, but all the premiums without KDSS had sunroof. So had to pick one with sunroof.

One more possible reason, yesterday I was at the tint shop and asked the tech "can I tint the sunroof as well?", tech said "don't do it, they break."

I also like the extra headroom without sunroof. I have never opened the glass on my 4Runner and I was never a fan even opening the shade for the sunroof. Seeing that movement just above my head was not a comfortable feeling for me.

I know if I don't like sunroof that much I could have ordered one, but then I won't be able to negotiate the price much.

I didn't want a sunroof when looking for a TRD ORP. Visited local Toyota dealerships to review inventories, negotiate the best out door price on an order, etc. All had sunroofs. I wasn't in a hurry so was going to order anyway to get what I wanted. I found that one dealership actually thought the sunroof was standard on the ORP, that came on all of the ORPs (that's what they said but considering the source who the hell knows if that was the truth). All this was early 2020, just days before the panicdemic became a thing. From the time the order was scheduled to be built, to taking delivery it was a just over two months (it came through one of the northwest ports). Keep in mind, this was early 2020 so it's surely different today.

I just ordered a new 2021 ORP from a dealer. I eventually chose the sunroof (for the better half) but was looking for it without previously. It might depend on your region, but it’s definitely available if you’re willing to travel for it. I ended up with just the sunroof and KDSS options.

The dealer’s first offer was 3k under MSRP (not invoice, but close enough for the amount of effort, lol), but it will likely be late July before I take delivery. So, you can definitely still wheel’n deal for an ordered vehicle. You could argue it costs a dealership more to keep a car on the lot longer, and so they’ll be more willing to deal for quick turnaround options.

Congrats on the new ride! Looks very familiar... I bought almost the same truck also in the middle of March. But mine has the sunroof and no KDSS. Enjoy it!

My 2021 ORP just arrived at the Dealer this past Friday. Accepting delivery this coming Friday. I wanted Magnetic Grey Metallic with a sunroof, but no KDSS. By coincidence, the Dealer had this exact combo on order for their inventory. That was on March 20. So I negotiated a $2,200.00 discount off List and gave them a check to hold it. The vehicle was scheduled to hit the west coast port on March 30. The Dealer mentioned it would be 4-6 weeks after that to arrive at the Dealership. So it took about 7 weeks total to arrive.
Interesting that the Sales Rep was showing me on their computer how many 4Runners were on their way to them that were already sold. LOL She said they seldom have more that 2 on their lot at any given time. And they're usually the luxury variations. Interesting also that there were 3/4 TRD-Pros on their list that were already sold at List. She said that all the TRD-Pro's and most of the TRD/ORP's are already sold by the time they arrive at the Dealership.

While very happy, it's going to be hard letting the FJ Cruiser go.

After seeing how low the inventory with dealers now I bet that $2,200.00 discount off is a big deal. It's not like before where we were able to test drive each and every trim level of 4Runers and negotiate. Not only imported 4Runners I only see hand full of US made trucks at the dealer lot.

    Congratz on your new ride..

Thanks. I could have waited another year as the 2022 Model is supposedly going to be the same as the 2021. But the best information I can find says that sometime in late 2022 Toyota will be gearing up to make the change to the 6th Generation for the 2023 Model year.
So I guessed it would be even more difficult to get a 2022. And dealers would be even less inclined to discount. So I decided to play it safe and get a 2021 while I can. I want the same drive-train as my FJ Cruiser.

Really wanted the 22 without moonroof but couldn't find any unless I went down trims to the off road. Glad I was able to keep it as msrp in this market

I didn't want one because I didn't want to pay extra for something that all of my previous vehicles had but I never got used (ok, maybe 5 times in 10 years). That said, I couldn't find one with KDSS and no moonroof in my area so I have a moonroof that I'll probably never (or very rarely) use.
