    Vehicle:
2000 4 runner limited 2 wheel drive automatic trans 330000 miles
Vibration at 70 to 80 mph after having new steering rack &rear control arms replaced-$1400
*The above is after having another new rack installed,*
taken to alignment shop for alignment, tech says something is wrong with rack as they have tie rods adjusted all the way out and still cant align it?
It was driven like this about 100 miles back to me-then I took it to a shop and had repairs done thinking it would be done correctly?
    Now after having replaced with another new steering rack/rear control arms;
Mechanic says the vibration problem is the differential?
    Here are other symptoms:
1)Feels like its pulling a load of bricks
    2)Excessive fuel usage
    3)Loud humm/vibration
4)Rear wheels spin when taking off from stop
5)Occasional pop in front when taking off from stop
6)Hard to turn steering wheel occasionally in a couple spots
7)Feels like something is in a bind somewhere
Shop was quick to tell me the problem has nothing to do with the work the did?
    It wasnt doing this before?
The differential has fluid 75-90 in it-and is full-
I dont know what to do now, I have too much invested in this truck to give up now, and I love it!
Everyone says I'm nuts to keep trying to save it?
Any advice would be appreciated as I'm clueless and dont feel like I can even trust the shop that did the work now?
I asked them to figure up how much to fix/replace differential still havent heard back from them?
    HELP...........

    Yeah, that shop is garbage.

Stiffness in the steering is air in the system. They didn't put enough fluid in the Power Steering Pump and didn't work at getting the air out.

Rear control arms don't cause vibrations.

A rack doesn't cause vibration. Bad tie rods might....but no reason to change the rack.

The rack needs to be installed CORRECTLY or the alignment can't be done. They didn't CENTER the rack AND the steering wheel when installing it. Now when they go to do alignment, they run out of threads on the tie rods.

    Bad alignment = 1,2,3,4,5

Air in the Power Steering lines\pump\rack = 6,7

Edit: Seriously. Screw that shop. Take it anywhere but there. They are idiots.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I agree. Screw that shop. They made the troubles, but obviously they don't have a clue how to fix what they messed up.

I don't know suspension as far as I can throw a 4Runner, but could 1 & 2 be caused by the truck being locked in 4WD? I'm thinking maybe #5 too? Maybe they didn't install the switch that tells the lights on the dash that 4WD is locked in?

I agree that the alignment is waaaaaay off, and needs to be properly done. Same with the air in the PS system. It needs to be bled and filled properly. I'm just wondering about the 4WD being locked in. Maybe the pop is the front axle and diff skipping or jumping a little? Just wondering. Like I say, I know nada about suspension.
