I could have sworn I posted in here before but I guess not. Leo out of NY. Crazy times these days lol

as for boot recommendations, I always went with these Thorogoods. Look sharp but so comfortable. A bit on the heavy side but never had foot pain after a 12 -15 hour tour.

Heh - if only California WAS a Republic: "A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them." That goes for the USA as well.

Thought I would add my two cents. Been retired for 5 years after 32 years in. Retired as a Detective. Good gig, but do feel bad for the new guys coming in. It's a different climate out there for sure. Am I glad I retired? I miss the guys/gals I worked with and seeing them everyday but don't miss the job itself. My department was only 25 members so didn't have or see the call volumn as a larger city, I can only imagine what they deal with on a nightly basis. We saw a lot, just not as often. Anyway, glad I and you other retirees made to the other side. As a friend said to me after I retired and I was feeling like I was too young to, "you done your bit, not relax". And if I had to do it all over again, Fire Department for sure!!!! :)

Oh this job. Six months in. Lots of fights. I need a new OC. It’s fun, but exhausting. Love on your po po people. We see a lot… do a lot. Not an easy job.

We get Tupperware back one day… have to do a death report a month later….for the. Same person…it really isn’t fun.

i don’t write tickets. I hate them. Costs people money, time, stress. I would rather teach. Fix it. Don’t drive like an ass. Nothing more. Be human. We really aren’t out to get you.

LEO are no different. We get it.

This thread, to this point, has been a pleasure to read: a lot of mutual respect, no hate (for each other), very informative. I’m not a LEO - just an old guy who has spent the past 12 years in volunteering for the local pd. Occasionally we get the “wanna bees” but when on my watch I would, due to cause, weed them out. Now here’s the thing: I suspect that the contributors to this thread are made up from all political parties and yet….? The commonality, the mutual love/respect that bonds you in a brotherhood prevents the door opening up to hate filled rants. Sometimes it just hard for me to understand why there has to be so much us vs them mentality on this rock we all share - and I’m not leaving myself out of this equation either (guilty as suspected)… This has been a beautiful thread and a pleasure to read.

OP - this old man was born in Mercy hospital - even though due to its proximity to the Zoo some folks think I was tossed over the fence.
    :annoyed:

Should I make it back to my beloved San Diego/La Jolla area I would love to take you up on your offer. Thank You Sir!

There would have to be one stipulation though before I graced you with my presence- that would be a Mexican meal of your recommended choice. I recall some of the best choices were real “hole in the walls”…. Last place we dined there was in Old Town, in an open air place where we literally had to cover our plates from bird droppings- was great grub though!

It's the 4Runner Effect. If you own a 4Runner, you'r one of "us"/ We do tend to get along pretty well. I always wave at other Toyota drivers as I see them on the road. Half of them probably think I'm a nut case, or a predator, or something. A lot of first gen drivers around here, though, and we all tend to be friendly to one another.

    It's The 4Runner Effect!

    Have fun, all!

I couldn't agree more! Wish we could apply our "brotherly love" to "ALL" but we just don't seemed to be wired that way which is sad. Ya'll realize of course this behavior just started when what, man began.....? Or was it her and the apple thing? :deadhorse:. Love you Brothers...

Some things will never change with this profession - patrol will continue to get slammed day after day, management will continue to say patrol is fully staffed, detectives will bitch about patrol not doing a good enough job and the weenies who can't handle patrol will put in for any assignment/specialty/promotion just to get off the road....and then eventually will promote to upper management and tell the patrol officers to quit bitching about staffing.

    Full circle.

Like many others have said, when I first started, I loved it. Every day was a good day. The country was unified in Post 9-11 and negative law enforcement sentiment was minimal. Somewhere along the way, the pendulum started to swing the other way and it's all the way over now. I don't understand why someone would want to do the job now, but I'm glad there are people like that.

Like you say, it started back when humans did.
If you weren't "of the tribe" clan/family/whatever, then you were in competition for resources. Food, water, mates, you name it. Like it or not, humans are still instinctively an us/them animal, and in our primitive brains, us=good, them=bad.

It may not be nice, and it may not match the correct political ideals, but it IS the way we are.

    Take care all!

Perfect example of why even try to do this job anymore. Just take the fucking report.

Summary: guy stabs a woman to death. Cop finds him hiding in a creek nearby, brandishing the murder weapon. Refused to comply. Subsequently gets shot and killed approx 20 feet from the officer. Texas Ranger investigator (who knew those guys were such bitches?) states that the armed non-compliant murder suspect 5 paces away from the cop "didn't pose a threat to him". Grand jury indicts officer for murder.

I read about this ^ and the high school athletic coach who got fired for disarming a kid with a gun / potential school shooter by slamming her against a wall, one article right after the other, and I thought my head was going to actually explode:

I can't believe the Rangers' investigation. I think their reputation will suffer because of that. Getting a grand jury indictment is absurdly easy here in AZ. It must be in TX, too. That Ranger should be ashamed of himself/herself. Their job is to gather facts...period. It's not to offer opinions, especially before trial.

The officer was ordered to shoot the suspect by his supervisor, who was standing right there and had already shot the suspect with bean bags with no effect. Further, the suspect was not only ignoring commands to drop the knife, he was *advancing* towards the officers, who were between the suspect and the mortally wounded female, who was being tended to by another officer.

If that's not a justifiable use of deadly force, I don't know what is.

Man...that's got my blood pressure going!! Un-effing real...

Seen on a Fall River, Massachusetts cruiser back in the late 80's, possibly still on them now, the motto, "We'll try." I always thought that was cool motto, like don't expect the best but we will try. :)

I saw this on Kimmel a few nights ago and was laughing pretty hard. I kept forgetting to find the actual stand-alone video and post it here, but now I did!

It's actually a good lesson in not following the herd and assuming that the cop ahead of you knows what's what, cause he might not...

LAPD can't see dude hiding from them:

Anybody running an optic on your duty gun? If so what are you running, also what holster? We are required to carry .45 acp. I carry a glock 21 now but contemplating going to a 41 mos so I can add an optic. Or getting one of my 1911's milled for an optic and carry that. I would buy another 21 and have it milled but I cannot find a level 3 retention holster for an optic that meets our agency regs ( has to be basket weave.)

Found this thread again while looking at my subscriptions.

OP hasn't posted for a few months.

@suaveflooder, you code 4 man? Everything still rainbows down there, I hope?

Oh for my peeps that carry an RCB (which is IMO the best collapsible baton you can get, but seems to be regionally a California thing) I recently found a cool holder for it made by 951 Tactical. AFAIK the only other options are the factory RCB holders which IMO leave something to be desired. This one is Kydex and is super solid, if not maybe a little pricey. I basically went back to carrying an RCB because of this holder.

It also works well for the Streamlight Stinger.

It’s been weird lately. Had a fentanyl exposure on Thursday. Spent the last 3 hours of my shift at the hospital. Nothing better than a fight and fentanyl to end your shift
