There is a rumble and vibration that starts at 60mph and gets more and more intense the higher speed. I've read about people mentioning tires and steering rack, but this only happens when the gas pedal is pressed. It kinda feels like when you drive on too low a gear with a stick.

    Any suggestions?

    My guess is U-joints.

    Maybe wheel bearing.

Wouldn't those be noticeable only at certain speeds regardless of whether gas pedal is pressed or not? The noise/vibration only seems to happen when I press the pedal, and disappears when I let go?

When you accelerate, you are adding stress (torque) all along the drive train. Bad U-Joints under tension\stress will make noise sometimes. They may be absolutely silent when you put the car in neutral or let off the gas.

My experience has usually been that they go clunk and then are ok until you let off the gas, and they go clunk again. But they can make growls.

Regardless, if it is tied to your throttle...it's pointing to something in the drive train. U-joints are a top culprit as they are the weakest link.

It could be the rear differential actually. I have had one of those do exactly what you are saying.

My bet is it's after the transmission somewhere...so that leaves u-joints, drive shaft or rear diff.

Wheel bearings should be checked but those usually howl and get louder as you go faster..not so much tied to the gas pedal.
