Hey all with the new runners with the blind side monitor systems, just wondering if anyone has ever started there 4 runner to notice that the BSM off light was on on the dash without you ever turning it off. Happened to me once or twice now and just seeing if anyone else has experienced this. Not sure if I was parked to much in the shade or what when starting never had a vehicle with this technology. Thanks!

In your owners manual there’s a few pages with the ins and outs of the BSM. The sensors are in the upper part of the rear bumper corners. If that area is consistently covered in dirt mud or snow that might be what is causing your failure. The continental units use radar, not visible light so it shouldn’t matter that you are in the shade.

Yes I read it all completely before posting, had a million things in there except this one case go figure. Thanks. Only thing I could think of is maybe salt on the sensor not sure how touchy they are. But hasn’t happened again in the last ten starts.

Haha it happens! Hopefully the area just needs a cleaning and it isn’t an electric gremlin.

Looking at this picture that I took a while back, the sensor is actually a bit lower than indicated in the manual. Hope it helps

Interesting, hope I never have to find out how much they cost to replace!
