Aries brush guard

I’d like to start by saying, I am not an avid off-roader nor do I expect this to help much at all in a big accident. I work at a college bar and every one of my coworkers cars have been hit, just precautionary.

With that being said, I love the way it turned out. Side note: this thing sucked to install. But it is rock solid so the impossible to reach mounting points were worth dealing with.

What y’all think?

 

Same set-up our county deputies vehicles have. Looks fine to me.

 

Some people say that those cause more damage in an accident than not having one at all. I don't know about that, but I think that actually looks pretty cool. You don't often see 5th gen's with those, I like it.

 

I have heard them called “damage multipliers” but I live next to campus and don’t really ever drive more than 15mph, can’t see it causing too much damage

Mine has held up well to 3 years of abuse and Idaho winters. It has save me plenty of damage from road debris and tumbleweeds.



The people that claim they are damage multipliers need to take a deep breath and think about reality.

Most people that have 5th gen 4Runners have comp and collision insurance coverage. Most have $500 deductibles. I have a $100 comp deductible and $500 collision deductible. My brush guard was around $400. If I hit a deer at 60 mph and it caves in the brushguard and causes $3000 worth of damage, but without the brushguard, would have caved in the front clip and fender and caused $2000 worth of damage, who cares? I am out the $100 deductible either way.

But, since mine has deflected a pheasant and a large tumbleweed, it has already saved me $200 in deductibles so far. Only two more minor impacts and I will have the cost of it paid off!

 

They cause more damage in any accident or off road incident then not having them. Tap a tree or rear end someone, get the side curvature near the headlight caught on a recovery where the vehicle slides and you will wish you never had one.

Agree, I've heard different variations of this but have yet to hear an explanation that stands up to reason. I think it's an old interweb myth especially considering what the OEM crash bar looks like under the front clip.

tons of people that actually use the shit out of their vehicles in daily conditions (like Australia) run these or similar

I am referring to brush guards not full bumpers or ARB style bull bars. But items made from companies similar to Westin, etc.

Concerning experience with them. I was rear ended by a Ford F150 in wet conditions while driving a 1997 Land Rover Discovery. I had a metal rear bumper on the truck that was one piece and replaced the stock bumper with the plastic side trim pieces, etc. It was wet after a rain and I was at a light. He pushed me into a Chevrolet sedan, maybe 15 mph? The front of the Disco had the factory brush guard from Land Rover installed. It pushed the guard up and back symmetrically taking out the hood, grille, both headlights and both fenders. No airbag deployment and the sedan was making a right hand turn, the right front corner of the Disco hit the left rear quarter of the sedan. I was amazed how the brush guard folded in a slow speed impact.

 

I dont have one but,it looks good./cant comment on the functionality but I see both sides

 

I would like a brush guard but have very limited options with the TSS.

It's a Brush Guard. Not meant for impacts other than brush and small things. Speed has no bearing.

 

I agree with this. I too have insurance, so in reality, who cares? I think these are worth it even if the only thing they do is protect the bumper and headlights from runaway shopping carts in the Costco parking lot.

 

Does any manufacturer make one like the OP's, but without the headlight guards ?

Or, can the headlight guards be removed from this brand of push-bar ?

 

They can’t be removed from mine BUT a couple of weeks ago I found a picture of someone on this website that doesn’t have the headlight guards on theirs, I can try to look for it. The only thing removable from mine is the small bars that fit inside of the headlight protection.

 

Looks great and surely provides some protection while you are at work.

 

This is the only photo I was able to find anywhere of one missing the entirety of both headlight guards and I’m pretty sure this is just an Aries that someone cut the sides off of.

There is someone on this forum that has one like this I have no idea who they are tho, I’d post that pic and see if anyone responds with anything if you’re serious about it
