I was getting ready to 3.4 swap my 95 4runner when the guy who taught me everything ask me why not diesel swap it. Hes a diesel freak has a 96 chevy 3500 dually with a cummins in it. Talk about skill in my opinion. Money and time isn't a issue to factor into it. I was just wondering which swap would be the better option for trail rig and long trip setups.

Personally, not a fan of diesels. I would stick with the 3.4 swap as there is a whole lot of info out there on this swap. Plus, diesel is much more expensive than gas.

Are you thinking something like a Cummins? Or, like a JDM diesel engine?

Some of the 4 cylinder JDM diesel engines have way better torque and fuel economy than the 3.4. This would increase your range and give you more usable power.

The downside is cost, and the difficulty of finding parts when needed.

I believe the Hilux Surf came with a diesel option, so you might be able to purchase a complete fron clip, or at least a complete engine/trans/ECU/wiring harness from a JDM engine distributor.

Edit: looking forward to your build thread!

I found a site with good diesel engine for sell. My issue would be is transfer case on the gas 3.0 the same as the diesel 3.0. Also would it be a direct drop minus swapping stuff out for the diesel setup. Screenshot_20220219-202940.jpg Screenshot_20220219-202948.jpg
