Any rubbing with 275/70r17?

Ironman stage 3 lift with 275 ko2's. I like the 275 didn't take the power and gas milage hit I would have with the 285.

 

YES....RUBBING. I just had Toyota install the Bilstein 6112/5100 (B12) lift from Shock Surplus using the 6/4 slots and my new Falken Wildpeak 275/70-17s rub even with a 2 inch lift up front. They only rub in reverse while turning but they definitely rub. I'm not talking 285s.....I'm talking 275s even with a nice high quality lift. The UCAs were not changed as this lift does not require it. Toyota did the alignment afterwards and it tracks perfectly and the ride is much improved. The rims were upgraded to the TRD Pro (gloss gray) rims at the same time.

Oh, I took detailed measurements prior to installing new rims, tires and lift. I got an extra 2 1/2 inches up front and about 1 1/2 inch in the rear.

 

Reading this thread would make me think the TRD Pro rims are precisely the cause for rubbing. The Off Road wheels dont seem to have this problem.

 

And I think the Wildpeaks tend to rub in more cases due to the tread width compared to other tires of the same size. Good looking tires though.

 

you are not wrong. I went with 265’s. Two reasons. No rubbing (or no potential to rub) and weight. Same size….weight goes up 10lbs a wheel… and that’s with 265’s. 275’s only come in an “e”. I don’t off-road. My “off-roading” is a steep dirt hill……no rocks

 

After some more researching/reading, I think the combo of specifically the TRD Pro gloss gray wheels with the Wildpeaks are the cause, but mostly the new rims. I'm going to check it today and see exactly where they're rubbing.

 

I have 275 AT3's on the TRD rims with no rubbing. I removed my mudflats the day I bought the 4R.

 

Very glad to hear it. You didn't mention a lift. Here are the pics to show the rub areas. I just used a dremmel to shave off the tiniest amount of plastic and she's good to go now.

 

I have a 1” front spacer.

 

10 lbs per tire increase in weight? For what tire? For the Wildpeaks, the weight difference is 5 lbs per and that's spread across 360 degrees for a rotating mass.

Glad you are happy with your 265s. That's exactly what matters. If I had it to do over again, I may have gone with 265s myself, however 5 minutes of dremmel time took care of the rubbing...no one would notice the mod and I really like the look of the new rims/tires. Now, ask me 6 months from now and the story may be different.

 

i looked on discount tires website at the k02’s weight. From a “c” to “e” it went up 10lbs for the 265’s alone. I was pretty surprised.

ha!! I want 285’s. I figure the 265’s will give me a couple years to lift and modify the 4Runner to handle a bigger tire. 285’s would absolutely be worth the extra weight.

 

Actually it's a 10.6 pound difference. 265/70-17 at 46.5 lbs and the LT275/70-17 at 57.1 lbs.

Why not so the “push the liner forward” mod? Asking for a friend. Like I said, I want to run 285’s at some point

 

The "push the liner forward" is real simple. We run 275's and did it with anticipation of going to 285's some day. Thanx Jake for the tutorial on the mod!
